FORT MYERS, Fla. –
Jaci Carpenter from beach volleyball and
Matt Millar from men's golf have earned the distinction of being named the latest Florida Gulf Coast University Suncoast Credit Union Scholar-Athletes of the Month.
Dublin, Ohio, native Carpenter has helped FGCU to a 7-3 start this season while playing primarily in the No. 4 doubles position. Included in those seven FGCU wins are 5-0 sweeps of Mercer University and Eckerd College. Against No. 16 Stetson University, Carpenter and teammate
Sydney Majick picked up FGCU's point in a 4-1 loss. In the classroom, Carpenter has a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in communication with a minor in education.
Millar was FGCU's best competitor at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville Feb. 16-17. In that tournament, Millar opened with a one-under-par round of 69. The Devon, England, native had a bogey-free front nine in Saturday's final round, propelling him to a finish in a tie for 27th on the individual leaderboard and to help the Eagles to a 12th place finish. Millar sports a 4.0 GPA in the classroom as he pursues his degree in integrated studies with a minor in management.
Carpenter and Millar are recipients of the award for March. The award has existed since the 2011-12 season, with Suncoast Credit Union having taken title sponsorship for the past three years.
