Seniors culminate impressive careers at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - FGCU swimming and diving honored seniors Karen Arngerisdottir, Emma Bjoernholdt, Dani D'Ambrosio, Jenna Gwinn, Emma Hixenbaugh, Sophia Macaisa, Emily Merton, Macy Mullis, Kylie Palian, Sara Pawluk, Zuzanna Rabiniak, Marissa Santos, Alicja Ulicka, Rebecca Winn, and Izabela Zekuciova before the meet on Saturday then defeated UNF 138-67.

"Every senior in this class is special; this one is especially huge, both in number, personality, and athletic prowess! We couldn't have asked for a better afternoon. The support from family, friends, administrators, and staff was first class," Head Coach Dave Rollins said. "It's been an honor to work with these ladies the past few years, and thankful we will have a few in the Green and Blue next year! It was a special weekend, with some fantastic performances and a lot of fun. I appreciate North Florida and the energy they bring to the day year in and year out. Now we turn the page and get ready for the ASUN Championships."

Bjoernholdt set the bar for the day, swimming the ninth fastest 1000 free (10:15.25) in program history in her final home meet with the team.

Arngeirsdottir started off the day as the breaststroke leg (1:03.65) of the winning 400 medley relay team. Winn won to 200 IM clocking in at 2:07.11. Zekuciova touched first in the 100 fly (56.26) followed closely by Macasia, clocking in at 56.34.

D'Ambrosio showed her versatility, stepping off the boards to swim the lead leg of the 200 free relay. The 200 free relay saw three teams loaded with seniors as Arngeirsdottir, Winn, Hixenbaugh, and Macaisa took home senior bragging rights as the fastest senior relay team (1:40.52), D'Ambrosio, Mullis, Rabiniak, and Ulicka were the second senior relay team to touch (1:41.11), and Zekuciova, Bjoernholdt, Gwinn, and Merton finished third among senior relay teams.

On the boards, Palian posted a score of 220.73 on the 1-meter, Pawluk put up a score of 213.53 on the 1-meter, and Santos placed fourth on both boards.
