Johnson and Beisner earn ASUN preseason awards

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Kacie Johnson and graduate student Shelby Beisner were named to the 2024 ASUN Preseason All-Conference Team.
 
"Kacie and Shelby mean everything to this program," said head coach Chris Sweat. "Not only are they both tremendous athletes and will probably graduate with the wins record, but both are the type of amazing humans that you want leading a program."

"They are both so coachable and have grown so much over the last four years and I can't wait to see what they accomplish in their last year for FGCU."

Johnson was an unanimous All-ASUN First Team selection and was named 2023 ASUN Co- Preseason Player of the Year last season, she registered a 19-17 overall record last season at No. 1. Johnson teamed up with Madison Parmelly and delivered upset victories over No. 15 FAU on three separate occasions earning back-to-back victories against Florida Atlantic on April 12 for Senior Day.

Johnson and Parmelly also downed teams from No. 10 Georgia State and No. 18 Stetson. Johnson finished the season with 67 career wins. Johnson also won the first ASUN Pair of the Week award last season and won her third straight honor of being on the First Team, 



Beisner registered a 17-18 record and topped her season by being named to the ASU All-Tournament team. Beisner mostly played at No. 2 with Trinity Rosales and secured a spot on the second team for a second consecutive season. The No. 2 pair recorded 15 wins last season, notching victories against ranked opponents, including No. 2 FSU, No. 12 FIU, No. 15 FAU, and No. 16 South Carolina. 

The pair was also victorious in matches against ASUN Conference members North Florida, North Alabama, and Jacksonville. Wednesday, they also earned the final ASUN Pair of the Week award after delivering a flawless 4-0 weekend, defeating the Gamecocks, College of Charleston, Jacksonville, and Coastal Carolina.
 
The FGCU beach volleyball schedule starts this weekend at the Stetson Season Opener, as the Eagles take on Mercer at 8 a.m. Friday.

The Eagles will play in six tournaments during the spring. Fans will have two chances to see FGCU at home when the Green and Blue host Eckerd and Tampa on Wednesday, March 5. The Eagles will then take on Palm Beach Atlantic and Florida Atlantic on March 30.
 
The ASUN Championship weekend will be held April 24-27 in DeLand, Florida.
