FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's women's tennis team pushed its winning streak to two after defeating Air Force 4-3 at the FGCU Tennis Complex Friday.
"The ladies competed very hard today and brought some good energy," said FGCU head women's tennis coach Courtney Vernon. "They are making steps each time they compete."
The Eagles (2-4) lost the doubles point but immediately regained the home crowd's confidence in singles.
Isabella Colmenares wasted no time winning 6-1, 6-1 at court No. 2 to put the Eagles on the scoreboard. Amelia Kopel kept the pace for FGCU, winning on court No. 6 with a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
The Eagles jumped out to a 3-1 lead as Ida Ferding won her match on court No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-3 showing. The Falcons responded on court No. 3 as Paloma Goldsmith fell 6-3, 6-4 to close the gap.
FGCU sealed the victory as Jordana Ossa clinched the match on court No. 5 with a 6-3, 6-2 dominant win. Fanny Norin gave up the match's final point after fighting for three sets but falling 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7).
The Eagles will now hit the road to open Atlantic Sun Conference play as they head to Louisville, Kentucky to play Bellarmine University (5-6) on Feb. 21.
