FORT MYERS, Fla. - Three members of the Florida Gulf Coast University volleyball team earned Academic All-District honors from College Sports Communicators (CSC) Tuesday as
Ella Chapman,
Skylar English, and
Shelby Kent earned recognition for their work in the classroom and on the court.
In order to qualify for CSC Academic All-District accolades, a student-athlete must have a GPA of at least 3.50 and be at least a sophomore in academic standing. On the court, a student-athlete qualifies in the sport of volleyball by either playing in 90 percent of all matches in a season or starting 66 percent of all matches in a season.
A sophomore, Chapman earned the recognition in her first year of eligibility for the award. The Greensburg, Indiana native was a Third Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference honoree. She played and started in all 32 matches for FGCUÂ and ranked third in total points with 235.0 earned. She finished 2024 with the ninth-most blocks in FGCU history in a season with 116. Chapman has a GPA of 3.877 and her major is mathematics.
English became the sixth player in FGCU history to finish with over 500 points in a season, tallying 509.5. While English racked up 392 kills, the senior currently ranks third in the nation in total service aces with 75. She was named Most Valuable Player of the ASUN Championship after knocking home 39 total kills in the tournament and recording a double-double in the semifinals against Eastern Kentucky University. The Naples native was one of four Eagles to play in all 117 sets this season for the Green & Blue. A biology major, English has a GPA of 3.72 and was a member of the ASUN All-Academic Team.
Kent had perhaps the biggest offensive season in FGCU history, becoming the first player in school history to surpass 500 kills in a season. She closed the 2024 campaign with 507 kills, ranking her 22nd in the country. She shattered the points record at FGCU, compiling 572 for the season to rank 26th in the country. The ASUN Player of the Year, the Port St. Lucie native tallied 10 or more kills in 30 out of 32 matches for the Eagles. She graduated from FGCU over the weekend with a degree in accounting and was also an ASUN All-Academic Team member.
