FORT MYERS, Fla. — Julija Grubisic Cabo was named to the First Team All‑ASUN, while
Barbara Koehler picked up a spot on the Second Team and the All‑Academic Team, and
Erica Muhizi made the ASUN All‑Freshman Team. The annual honors were announced Wednesday ahead of the start of the 2025 ASUN Championships, which are being held at Alico Arena and feature No. 1 seeded FGCU taking on No. 8 seed UNF Thursday at 7 p.m.
"I am happy for the recognition for Julija, Barbara and Erica, but these are also awards that every member of our team had a part in," said head coach Thais Baziquetto‑Allen. Congratulations to them and all of the other award winners."
Grubisic Cabo has led FGCU to a 13‑3 record and registered 14 double‑double matches with 23 matches of 10 or more kills. She leads the Eagles with 352 kills (3.14 per set) for the season. Grubisic Cabo had a career‑high 21 kills alongside 10 digs when the Eagles defeated UNF in Fort Myers, and the Slovenia native registered a career‑high 19 digs vs. Stetson in DeLand and chipped in 11 kills when the Eagles set a program‑record 72 kills.
Koehler is finishing her master of business administration degree and her 3.9 GPA landed her on the All‑Academic Team. She has 18 matches with 10 or more kills and a season total of 305 kills, the second‑best on the Green & Blue squad. She delivered a career‑high 20 kills to help the Eagles sweep UNF and win the regular‑season title. Her performance last week earned her the final ASUN Player of the Week award of the season and the second time this season she's won it.
She led the Eagles to road wins over Stetson, Jacksonville and North Florida with 51 kills, 24 digs and seven total blocks. Previously, on Oct. 6, she averaged 3.75 kills per set along with 27 digs against Stetson (18 kills, four aces, seven digs, two blocks), then added 10 kills and seven digs vs. West Georgia. She capped the week with a double‑double vs. Queens (N.C.) with 17 kills and 13 digs. She has six double‑doubles this season and surpassed 100 total blocks, as well as set a personal best of four aces vs. Stetson.
Muhizi made her mark in her rookie season with FGCU. The All‑Freshman Team member leads the ASUN in blocks with 109 and has been named ASUN Defensive Player of the Week twice, and Freshman of the Week in her first season. Her most recent DPOW award came against FIU where she posted four blocks; versus North Florida the middle blocker notched two aces and added five blocks. Against Jacksonville she recorded a career‑high nine blocks.
She earned her freshman weekly award after tallying 14 blocks and averaging 1.88 blocks per set, also contributing offensively with 12 kills. She helped FGCU defeat FIU on the road, recording six block assists and adding five kills on seven attacks for a .714 hitting percentage. In the match against Miami, she registered a season‑high eight block assists and delivered seven kills on 13 swings (.385). Earlier in the season in her first defensive‑award week, she registered seven block assists as the Eagles earned a 3‑1 victory at LMU.
