Eagles set for FGCU MTE

FORT MYERS, Fla. - After just one home game out of the first four, Florida Gulf Coast University's men's basketball team will have three games in Alico Arena over three days as the Eagles host the FGCU MTE.

Play starts Friday morning as the Eagles take on Cal State University Bakersfield at 11 a.m. The Eagles will take on Northeastern University at 1 p.m. Saturday, with the MTE wrapping up Sunday at 3 p.m. against cross-coast rival FIU.

FGCU (1-3) has been idle since a 63-61 loss at Drake last Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Three players scored in double-figures for FGCU in defeat, led by Zavian McLean's 17. FGCU led 61-60 entering the final minute, but after an empty possession on the offensive end for the Eagles, Drake would connect on a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left to get the victory.

After finishing second in the country in field goal percentage last season, Keeshawn Kellman has come out of the gate matching last year's numbers. Shooting at a 68.4 percent clip in 2023-24, Kellman enters the weekend hitting on 69.4 percent of his shots (25-of-36). He's also scored in double-figures in three of the four games so far this year.

The last time the Eagles were at home, they dropped a 74-65 decision to St. Bonaventure Nov. 13 in front of a crowd of 3,554. McLean led FGCU with 16 points off the bench. Rory Stewart tied his career-high in scoring with 11 for the Eagles in defeat.

CSU Bakersfield is 3-1 on the season entering Friday's contest. The Roadrunners lost at Cal to start the season but have taken three in a row since, including an 18-point win over Fresno State. Jemel Jones is one of four Roadrunners averaging in double-figures, scoring 19.8 points per game.

In Friday's afternoon game, Northeastern will take on FIU at 1 p.m. Northeastern also starts play this weekend with a 3-1 record. The Huskies only loss was to (RV) Princeton. Harold Woods leads NU with 20.5 points per game, one of three Huskies averaging double-figures. FIU enters the MTE with a 1-3 record. The Panthers have been close in all three losses, scoring at least 70 points in all three. Jayden Brewer has netted 17.8 points per game to pace FIU.

Live streaming will be available for all of FGCU's games this weekend via ESPN+. Live stats for every game will be available via StatBroadcast. Tickets for the FGCU MTE can be purchased at the Alico Arena box office or by visiting FGCUTickets.com.
