FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University will play its third road game of the season Saturday night in Des Moines, Iowa as the Eagles take on Drake. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m. EST with live video available via ESPN+.
The Eagles (0-3) are coming off a 74-65 loss Wednesday night at the hands of St. Bonaventure in the home opener for the Eagles.
Zavian McLean had 16 points off the bench to lead FGCU, with
Dallion Johnson adding 13 and
Rory Stewart chipping in 11. "We competed for 26 minutes," FGCU head coach
Pat Chambers said. "Unfortunately, the game is 40. So let's learn. Let's grow, let's get better. This is all about preparation for January. We're being battle tested."
McLean has his best performance in an Eagles uniform Wednesday. The transfer from Columbia went 7-of-10 from the field with five rebounds in 29 minutes of action. It was McLean's first extended time on the court as
Drake (2-0) won the Missouri Valley Conference last season but was picked to finish fifth in the league's preseason poll. The Bulldogs opened up with a pair of wins thanks to a 52-point win over York on opening night and a 66-51 win over Stephen F. Austin. Four players are averaging in double-figures for Drake, led by 18.0 from Daniel Abreu.
Following Saturday night's contest, the Eagles will be back home for the FGCU MTE Nov. 22-24. The Eagles will host Cal State Bakersfield, Northeastern and FIU for the multi-team event. Friday morning's first contest against CSUB is set for 11 a.m.
