Zschuppe and Badger collect ASUN weekly honors

FORT MYERS, Fla.Erika Zschuppe and Emma Badger take home weekly honors from the Atlantic Sun Conference Monday, the ASUN Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week.

"Happy for them and this caps a wonderful weekend of results," head coach Jim Blankenship said. "They both had huge impacts on the games and the overall result."

Zshcuppe and Badger led FGCU to its third straight win Sunday, providing fireworks on offense and clamping down on defense to improve to 5-1 in the league standings. Monday's honors marks the first award of the season for both Zschuppe and Badger. As a team, FGCU has now been the home to two ASUN Player and Defensive Player of the Week Award winners.

Zschuppe scored a goal in both matches this weekend, lifting FGCU to an 8-0 win against Queens and a 5-0 victory over West Georgia. She was also credited with an assist to give her five points for the weekend. Zschuppe helped to spark the most goals ever scored in back-to-back matches in program history.

The eight-goal onslaught against Queens is the most that FGCU has scored in a single match in six years, back when the Eagles put eight on Webber International in 2018. The contest witnessed the most Eagles' goals against a Division I opponent since 2015.

Zschuuppe, the ASUN Preseason Midfielder of the Year, has four goals on the season, tying for second most on the team and tying for fifth in the ASUN. She is second in the conference in total assists with five, and her 31 shots rank fifth across the ASUN.

Badger limited Queens to just six shot attempts on Friday, a defensive season-low for FGCU. Then on Sunday, Badger helped to limit West Georgia to only two shots for the Eagles' fifth shutout of the season, fourth in ASUN play. Badger played the full 90 minutes against Queens and 81 minutes in a rain-soaked battle against West Georgia.

The Eagles eye to take the top spot in the ASUN regular season standings this Thursday, facing 7-3-3 Lipscomb at 7 p.m. in Nashville, Tennessee.
