A special Fall season wrapped up for Florida Gulf Coast University's women's golf team Tuesday as the Eagles placed second at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, giving the team a head-to-head record of 46-1 over four tournaments.
The Eagles finished second in the event to host Miami, which shot a remarkable 278 on its home course in Tuesday's final round to win the event by 19. The Eagles edged South Alabama by a stroke for second and bested Big Ten Conference foes Iowa and Nebraska.
A pair of Eagles finished in the top 10 for the event. Junior
Lousiane Gauthier finished in a three-way tie for sixth after firing an even-par 216. Senior
Posie Farrelly finished in a tie for 10th with a one-over-par 217.
Freshman
Islay Benoit had her best round of the tournament Tuesday, recording a one-under-par 71 to finish tied for 20th.
Leonie Wulfers carded an even-par 72 to finish in a tie for 22nd.
Amelie Alcantara had a 74 in the opening round to contribute to FGCU's team score.
Playing as an individual,
Sydney Deal rebounded from a tough first round to shoot a three-over-par 147 over the final two rounds.
The Eagles were tied for the lead after the first round of the event. In the 11 competitive rounds FGCU played in the Fall season, the Green and Blue were leading or tied for the lead after eight of them. The only head-to-head loss on the team's record was recorded against Miami as the Eagles were 37-0 entering the tournament. FGCU won the Johnie Imes Invitational, the Pat Bradley Invitational, and the Diamante Intercollegiate during the season and also received votes in the Women's Golf Coaches Association's Top 25 poll.
The Eagles will now be idle until Jan. 27, 2025 when they travel to the Sea Best Invitational hosted by Jacksonville University. A total of 14 teams are currently scheduled for the event.
