FORT MYERS, Fla. - In the debut rankings for the 2024-25 season for NCAA women's golf, Florida Gulf Coast University is ranked No. 32 nationally in the National Collegiate Golf Rankings powered by Clippd. The ranking is the highest in Division I history for the women's golf program in a season not impacted by COVID-19.
The Eagles have started the year with two wins in two tournaments. At the Johnie Imes Invitational Sept. 23-24, the Eagles were the only team to finish under-par, carding a team score of one-under-par to win the tournament by 13 strokes over host Missouri. A week later at the Pat Bradley Invitational in Doral, the Eagles won by 13 strokes with a record-setting score of 843, good for 18-under-par.
The Green & Blue are ranked ahead of in-state rival UCF (No. 35), Southeastern Conference schools Kentucky (No. 36), Tennessee (No. 37), and Florida (No. 44) and Atlantic Coast Conference schools NC State (No. 54) and Miami (No. 55).Â
Amelie Alcantara won the Johnie Imes individually and finished in a tie for third at the Pat Bradley. Those two results have propelled the junior from Ocala to a ranking of No. 54, making her the only Atlantic Sun Conference golfer to be ranked in the Top 150 nationally.
FGCU was ranked No. 21 in the Golfweek rankings early in Spring 2021 as collegiate sports returned from the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, very few teams had played but the Eagles moved from No. 73 to No. 21 in the rankings following a second place finish at the Mid-American Challenge against a field filled with teams from the Mid-American Conference. The Eagles would finish with a Golfweek/Sagarin spring-only ranking of No. 110.
The Eagles will travel to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas this weekend for the Diamante Intercollegiate hosted by Little Rock. The tournament tees off with the first round Sunday, followed by rounds on Monday and Tuesday.
