FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball and baseball teams finished as NCAA statistical champions, putting a final chapter to the 2022-23 season.
Baseball led the nation in three categories in its 42-win campaign: runs per game, home runs per game and slugging percentage.
FGCU recorded 578 runs in 2023, averaging 9.6 per game. The total set a new single-season program record, besting 2007's top mark of 512 by 66. The Eagles scored 10 or more runs in 29 game of its 60 contests. FGCU pushed across 20 or more twice, with a school-record 28 against North Alabama.
The Eagles also belted 142 home runs, hitting at least one homer in 52 games for an average of 2.37 per contest - ahead of 2023 national champion Louisiana State University. FGCU produced at least three homers in 27 games. The Green & Blue smashed a season-high seven moonshots at North Alabama, tying the program's single-game record. Chicago White Sox draftee
Edrick Felix led the ASUN Conference with 25 round trippers.
As a squad, the power-minded Eagles accumulated a nation-leading .592 slugging percentage.
FGCU's women's basketball lived up to its "Raining 3s" mantra once again by leading the country in three-pointers per game for the fourth consecutive season.
In 2022-23, the Green & Blue averaged 11.5 treys per game, holding a lead over second-place Wright State University's 10.1 per game. FGCU and Wright State finished as the only two teams in the nation to hold a double-digit average.
The Eagles registered 10 or more threes in 25 contests and recorded a season-best 22 at North Florida on Feb. 4. The 22 treys were just one shy from tying FGCU's all-time single-game record, which was set in 2021 against Ave Maria.
FGCU went 33-4 record last season – winning its 13
th ASUN Conference regular season title and 10
th ASUN Tournament Championship along with earning a 10
th NCAA Tournament berth.
