FORT MYERS, Fla. – For the third consecutive season, redshirt junior
Magnus Johnson (
Naples, Fla./Homeschool/UCF) has been named the ASUN Conference Player of the Year as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon. Johnson is the first player in league history to win the award three straight times.
The No. 1 FGCU player headlines four Eagles earning postseason accolades, as junior
Randy Wilson (
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/Miami Palmetto/Louisville) and redshirt junior
Marcelo Sepulveda (
Monterrey, Mexico/Penn Foster/Alabama) were named to the All-ASUN Second Team. Redshirt junior
Guglielmo Stefanacci (
Prato, Italy/International School of Florence) earned a spot on the All-ASUN Third Team.
Johnson also secured a place on the
ASUN All-Academic Team with a 3.95 GPA majoring in management – his second straight year making the All-Academic list.
"What an incredible honor to be recognized by your peers in such a way for these guys to achieve these awards this season," said head coach
CJ Weber. "Magnus had one of the most complete seasons in FGCU history, playing incredible singles and doubles and having a 3.95 GPA is more than deserving to be on the academic team.
"Both Randy and Marche were pillars for us at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots all year, and we are where we are in large part due to their efforts on and off the court! And Gug, our team captain, had the most successful season of his career and put up consistent results week in and week out. All these guys are very deserving of these honors."
Johnson went 16-3 overall this spring, playing exclusively at the No. 1 position. In conference play, he went an undefeated 7-0. Johnson also picked up big non-conference wins over players from Southern Miss, FAU, USF, Georgia State, Mercer twice, No. 57 Penn State, and No. 70 Louisiana.
Johnson earned ASUN Player of the Week honors in February after achieving two singles victories and addition to two wins in doubles against Mercer in back-to-back matches.
Johnson is also part of the No. 1 doubles pair and holds a 12-4 record going 7-1 with senior
Max Damm (
Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal School), and 5-3 with Wilson. Some of his impressive doubles wins were against Southern Miss, Georgia State. Bucknell, USF, No. 41 Tulane and No. 57 Penn State.
Wilson earned a spot on the All-ASUN Second Team for the second straight year, compiling a 9-7 record this spring – with victories over non-conference opponents Southern Miss, Bucknell, FAU, Georgia State, Mercer twice, Stetson, and No. 70 Louisiana.
Wilson recorded an 8-6 score in doubles matches – going 5-3 at No. 1 with Johnson and 3-3 at No. 2 with Sepulveda. Wilson's doubles victories include Southern Miss. USF, Georgia State, No. 41 Tulane, No. 57 Penn State, Bellarmine, Stetson and Queens (N.C.).
Sepulveda also put together a strong season, going 9-7 this spring at No. 2 and No. 3 and a 6-1 mark in ASUN action. He clinched the doubles point against No. 63 Liberty, and clinched the singles point to help the Eagles become 2023 regular season champs for a second straight year.
Sepulveda defeated non-conference opponents Southern Miss, Bucknell, and South Alabama. He also went 6-4 in doubles alongside junior
Eric Oncins (
Orlando, Fla./Montverde Academy) to defeat No. 57 Penn State 6-4 at No. 2.
Stefanacci went 14-5 overall this spring, playing at the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, picking up big non-conference wins over players from Southern Miss, FAU, USF, Georgia State, Mercer twice, No. 57 Penn State, and No. 70 Louisiana.
Stefanacci earned ASUN Player of the Week honors March 15 after achieving two singles matches victories against No. 47 Tulane and No. 57 Penn State.
Stefanacci holds an 8-7 doubles record this season, going 3-1 at No. 2 with Sepulveda and 5-6 at No. 3 with redshirt senior
Carter Bradford (
Wesley Chapel, Fla./Saddlebrook Preparatory School/George Mason). He teamed up with Sepulveda to clinch the doubles point against No. 63 Liberty at No. 2.
Stefanacci's other doubles victories include FAU, Bucknell, Lipscomb, No. 41 Tulane, Mercer and Stetson.
The Eagles will turn their attention to the ASUN Tournament taking place this weekend at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles earned the No. 1 seed after winning the ASUN regular-season title and will play the winner of No. 8 seed Stetson and No. 9 seed Lipscomb at 5 p.m. Friday.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by four-time ASUN Coach of the Year
CJ Weber, who has coached 32 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his 12th year, Weber has compiled a 135-103 (.567) overall record and a 59-20 (.746) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed a perfect ASUN regular season in both 2015 and 2016, finishing with conference titles as well as a Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the 2017 ASUN Championship and made its second NCAA appearance. The Eagles returned to the mountaintop by claiming the 2019 regular season and tournament championships. Weber earned his third ASUN Coach of the Year honor and led the Green and Blue to their third trip to the NCAA Tournament. In 2022, Weber led the Eagles to another ASUN regular-season title while reaching #65 in the ITA rankings, the highest in program history. And in 2023, Weber's Eagles claimed a share of the ASUN regular-season crown.
