FORT MYERS, FLA. – Graduate guard Tishara Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS/Nebraska CC) scored 17 points and dealt 10 assists Thursday for her second straight double-double as No. 26 FGCU (23-3 overall, 11-1 ASUN Conference) routed Stetson 100-58 at Alico Arena.

Morehouse's 10-assist performance was only the 15th time an Eagle dealt 10 or more assists in FGCU history, and her double-double with assists was only the sixth in the Green & Blue's 21-year era. Morehouse went for 19 points and 10 assists last week in a 106-51 victory over North Florida. The other three double-doubles with assists in school history are owned by Courtney Chihil (14 points, 12 assists vs. Indiana on Dec. 21, 2010), Lisa Zderadicka (15 points, 10 assists vs. North Florida on Jan. 19, 2019), graduate guard Emma List (11 points, 10 assists vs. Davidson on Nov. 29, 2020) and current FGCU assistant coach Shannon Murphy (11 points, 10 assists vs. USC Upstate on Feb. 28, 2011).

The Eagles scored a season-best 61 points in the first half, surpassing the 56 first-half points they scored at Queens on Jan. 19.

The victory was the Green & Blue's ninth consecutive home win, and 15 of its last 16 overall. The Eagles have now eclipsed the 100-point plateau 26 times in history, and FGCU's 17 triples Wednesday were the second-most in a game this season. The Green & Blue continue to be the front runner in the ASUN with 11 conference victories, now 1½ games ahead of Liberty, Austin Peay and Lipscomb – which are all 9-2.

The Hatters fell to 11-14 overall and 5-7 in the ASUN.

Graduate guard Sha Carter (Southfield. Mich./Wylie E. Groves HS/Walsh) registered 16 points, grabbed three rebounds and chipped in two assists. Redshirt junior guard Alyza Winston (Muskegon, Mich./Muskegon HS/Mississippi State) went for 14 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Senior forward Uju Ezeudu (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Reynoldsburg HS/Denver) scored 11 points and pulled down two rebounds.

"I think we have a lot of really good players," said FGCU head women's basketball coach Karl Smesko. "When they work together, share the ball and really apply pressure on teams we come out with a great result."

After a seven-minute stretch that saw Stetson hang with FGCU for a 15-15 tie, the Eagles unleashed a 12-2 run that included eight Ezeudu points to take a 27-17 advantage heading into the second quarter.

The Eagles were near-perfect in the second quarter, shooting 78.6 percent from the field (11-of-14) to pile up 34 points and enjoy a 61-42 halftime lead.

The Eagles continued pouring on the points after intermission, outscoring Stetson 19-7 in the third quarter for an 80-49 cushion. FGCU kept dominating on both ends to the final horn, allowing the Hatters just nine fourth-quarter points and racking up 20 on the offensive end to break the 100-point barrier.

Smesko once again utilized all 12 available players, with everyone earning at least four minutes of playing time and 10 players scoring at least six points. Senior guard Jamiya Turner led Stetson with 13 points, and freshman forward Jaelyn Talley grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

The Eagles head to DeLand on Saturday to face Stetson again, with tip-off set for 1 p.m. FGCU's next home game is Feb. 16 against Lipscomb.

The Green & Blue have now hit 310 3-pointers, for an average of 11.9 treys per game – the highest average in the country. The Eagles have nearly tripled their opponents' treys total, allowing only 109 this season. FGCU's run to its 2021-22 national ranking was due to the Eagles' continued dominance behind the 3-point arc. The Eagles have led the nation in made threes per game the past three years and in four of the last five seasons -- with an NCAA single-season record total 431 in 2017-18.
Entering this season, the Eagles were selected by both the coaches and the media to repeat as ASUN champions. FGCU is currently ranked No. 3 in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Eagles finished with a program-best-ever No. 20 ranking in 2021-22 and have four Top 25 finishes in the past five seasons. Further, only the Green & Blue and defending national champion South Carolina have won at least 30 games in five of the last eight campaigns.
