DELAND, Fla.
 – The No. 26 FGCU women's basketball team (24-3 overall, 12-1 ASUN Conference) scored 34 points in the second half Saturday afternoon en route to a 67-57 victory over Stetson at the J. Ollie Edmunds Center. The win completes a season sweep of the Hatters, as the Green & Blue delivered a 100-58 showing when Stetson visited Alico Arena on Feb. 8.

The Eagles have won six straight games, 16 of their last 17 games and nine of their last 10 road outings. As the only team with 12 ASUN wins, FGCU remains atop the conference standings – now 1½ games ahead of Liberty, Austin Peay and Lipscomb, which are all 10-2. The Green & Blue was the first team to clinch an ASUN Tournament berth.

The Hatters fell to 6-16 overall and 3-9 in the ASUN.

Graduate guard Tishara Morehouse (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King HS/Nebraska CC) led the Eagles with 15 points and three assists.

Graduate guard Sha Carter (Southfield. Mich./Wylie E. Groves HS/Walsh) recorded her third double-double of the season – scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds to go with two assists and a pair of steals. Graduate guard Sophia Stiles (Malta, Mont./Malta HS/Montana) went for 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

"Very tough game today. Stetson played very well. Fortunately, we played a good fourth quarter.," said FGCU head women's basketball coach Karl Smesko. "Uju, Kae, Maddie, and Brylee really came through for us today."

Stetson held on with FGCU for the first four minutes, trailing 10-9 before the Eagles unleashed a 12-4 run to take a 22-13 advantage heading into the second quarter. The Hatters immediately responded outscoring the Eagles 17-11 to close the gap to 33-30 heading into halftime.

Stetson started the third quarter with a 15-9 advantage to take its first lead, 45-42, with 3:57 to go. But the Green & Blue responded with an 8-2 run to take a 50-47 edge into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles fired six unanswered points in the final 10 minutes to stretch the score to 56-47 before unleashing a 12-6 run that consisted of back-to-back Morehouse triples to never look back.

Smesko played nine players, with each player earning at least nine minutes of playing time and scoring at least two points. Senior guard Kiya Turner led Stetson with a game-high 18 points, and freshman forward Jaelyn Talley grabbed seven rebounds.

The Eagles return home next week, first taking on Lipscomb (16-8, 10-2) at 7 p.m. Thursday and then hosting Austin Peay (15-7, 10-2) at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The Green & Blue have now hit 320-3-pointers, for an average of 11.9 treys per game – the highest total and per-game average in the country. The Eagles are 2.2 treys per game ahead of Wright State and Tulsa. FGCU has almost tripled their opponents' treys total, allowing only 113 this season. The Eagles have led the nation in made threes per game the past three years and in four of the last five seasons -- with an NCAA single-season record total 431 in 2017-18.

FGCU is third in the country with a scoring margin of 21.9 points per game – with only South Carolina (33.9) and LSU (32.4) sporting higher scoring margins. The Eagles are currently eighth in the nation in assist/turnover ratio with 1.40.

Entering this season, the Eagles were selected by both the coaches and the media to repeat as ASUN champions. FGCU is currently ranked No. 3 in the Collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 poll. The Eagles finished with a program-best-ever No. 20 ranking in 2021-22 and have four Top 25 finishes in the past five seasons. Further, only the Green & Blue and defending national champion South Carolina have won at least 30 games in five of the last eight campaigns.
