FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University women's basketball will close out its non-conference slate Thursday by hosting Webber International at Alico Arena.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Thursday will mark the sixth all-time meeting between the two programs and the first in three years. The Eagles easily won the last meeting (2020) 91-55. FGCU holds a perfect 5-0 record against Webber International dating back to 2003.
FGCU (9-4) is fresh off a 2-0 showing at the Homewood Suites Classic, defeating both Drexel and Southern Miss to extend their home win streak to 20 games - the nation's sixth-longest active home winning streak.
Four Eagles are averaging 10.9 or more points this season, Dolly Cairns, Emani Jefferson, Uju Ezeudu and Maddie Antenucci have reached the benchmark. FGCU has led the nation in made threes per game for four consecutive seasons and is currently ranked No. 26 in the category with 8.8 per game. The Eagles are also averaging 28.8 attempts from deep per game, ranking seventh nationally.
FGCU climbed up two spots in the latest CollegeInsider.com's Mid Major Top 25 Poll to No. 4 overall and has received votes in the Associated Press Poll twice this season. FGCU is the only mid-major program with four straight Top 25 finishes in the AP Poll over the last four campaigns. The Green and Blue has finished in the Top 25 in five of the previous six years.
FGCU, South Carolina, Stanford and UConn are the only four D-I programs to record 30 or more wins in three of the last five seasons. The Eagles went 33-4 a season ago, winning their 13th Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title and ninth ASUN Tournament Championship, along with capturing their fourth-ever NCAA Tournament victory.
The Green and Blue soared into the 2023-24 season as the all-time winningest program in women's college basketball history, with a win percentage of .845.
