FGCU to face Georgia Southern in a battle of the Eagles

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University's men's basketball team will attempt to get back to its winning ways Tuesday night as the Eagles face Georgia Southern University in Savannah, Ga. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m., with no streaming video available for the game.

FGCU (3-9) had a 49-40 lead in the second half but saw Mercer University rally back for a 70-65 win. The Eagles had a strong game shooting from the field as their 52.2 percent clip (24-of-46) was the best of the season through 12 games. Defensively, the squad's nine steals were also the most this season. Ultimately, the difference in the game would be proficiency from the foul line, as Mercer went 12-of-15 while FGCU went 10-of-19.

Another bright spot offensively for FGCU has been the play of Keeshawn Kellman. The transfer is ranked fourth in the country in field goal percentage at 68.8 percent (64-of-93). On shots inside the 3-point line, Kellman is connecting at a 72.7 percent rate. Kellman is averaging 12.8 points per contest while his 7.1 rebounds per game leads the FGCU squad.

Georgia Southern (0-11) is still looking for its first win under first-year head coach Charlie Henry, but the Eagles played perhaps their best contest last Saturday, an 82-77 loss to UNC-Wilmington. FGCU marks the fourth Atlantic Sun Conference team that GSU has played, with the Eagles losing on a neutral floor to Kennesaw State, at home to Jacksonville, and on the road to North Florida.

Following Tuesday's game, FGCU will return home to face Florida Memorial University at Alico Arena. Start time in Friday night's contest is slated for 7 p.m.
