FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Suncoast Credit Union FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athletes of the Month for September are sophomore women's soccer forward Kendal Gargiula and redshirt junior baseball infielder Jacob Lojewski.

One male and female FGCU student-athlete are chosen for the honor each moth throughout the academic year. Factors in the selection include significant athletic and overall academic success.

Gargiula is in the midst of a banner season on the pitch for the Eagles. Recently named First Team All-Atlantic Sun Conference, Gargiula has started in all 18 matches and leads the team in goals scored with seven, tying for second across the ASUN. She scored a goal in three consecutive matches during the regular season and has fired three game-winners. Gargiula is second on the team and fifth in the conference in points with 16, adding two assists. In shots, her tally of 28 ranks third the squad, including 16 shots on goal. She is a Health Science major with a 3.88 GPA.

"Really proud of Kendal for receiving this award," said FGCU Head Women's Soccer Coach James Blankenship. "The work that she put into the classroom obviously is important. So to be recognized for that is a wonderful feeling."

Lojewski was a Third Team All-ASUN selection in 2023. He started all 60 games while batting .290 with 18 home runs, 16 doubles, and 59 RBI. He had 64 hits in the campaign scored 58 runs while slugging at a percentage of .606. Perhaps his best series of the season was at North Alabama when he drove in three runs and scored four in the Friday win, then added three hits, eight RBI, and two runs scored in the finale to complete the sweep. He also appeared in four games on the mound for the Green & Blue. He is an Exercise Science major with a 3.63 GPA.

"Jacob's worked really hard to be a valuable part of our team," said FGCU Head Baseball Coach Dave Tollett. "He also works really hard in the classroom. I'm really happy that he received this recognition."

This is the third year that Suncoast Credit Union has been the title sponsor of the FGCU Athletics Scholar-Athletes of the Month. The award itself dates back to the 2011-12 season.
