Blankenship Announces Upcoming Women's Soccer Camps

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women's soccer head coach Jim Blankenship has announced the dates for various camps and showcases this summer.

Blankenship, whose 424 career wins are ranked tenth among active NCAA DI women's soccer coaches, will be hosting an ID camp, a junior elite camp, a day camp, and an elite college showcase camp at the FGCU Soccer Complex. All four will feature a highly-competitive atmosphere with an emphasis on teaching and player development.

ID Camp
Date: June 4, 2022
The ID Camp is designed for serious high school soccer players that are looking to be successful at the next level. A separate goalkeeping curriculum will be in place to address the needs of keepers.
Ages: 14+
Cost: $150

Jr. Elite ID Camp
Date: June 13 – June 16
The Jr. Elite residential camp has a two-pronged focus on both the technical education and development of players ages 10-13. Tactical ideas will also be introduced. The goal is to get young players to the next level as they prepare for all of their future successes in the game.
Ages: 10-13
Cost: Overnight Campers - $595
          Commuter Campers - $495; 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Day Camp
Date: June 13 – June 17
The day camp is designed for players wanting to learn the fundamental skills of soccer. Individual instruction will be provided in this more intimate camp setting, which will emphasize the use of correct techniques.
Ages: 6-13
Cost: $250 Full Day Campers - 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
$150 Half Day Campers - 9 a.m. - 11 a.m.
$100 Deposit Required with Registration- non-refundable
Campers should arrive June 13 and check in at the FGCU Soccer Complex from 8:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.

Elite Camp
Date: July 21 – July 24
The Elite College Showcase residential camp is designed to improve the skill level and tactical understanding of players ages 14-18. It also serves as an ID Camp for all of the colleges and universities represented at camp. Practice sessions will be intense and very competitive to challenge every level of the players' abilities. In addition to the FGCU staff, this camp is staffed by FGCU Coaches, NCAA Division I/II/III Coaches as well as NAIA and ODP coaches.
Ages: 14-18
Cost: Overnight Campers - $650
Commuter Campers - $550; 9 a.m. - 8 p.m.
$100 Deposit Required with Registration-non-refundable
Campers should arrive July 21 and check in at Alico Arena from 1:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

TEAM OR GROUP DISCOUNTS
Teams or groups of 11 or more who send in their applications/registrations together are eligible for a $25 discount per camper. FGCU Employees are eligible for a $25 discount.  Siblings will receive a $10 per camper discount - only one discount per camper. Blankenship holds a 424-140-39 record over 31 seasons as a head coach, including a record of 184-69-28 in 15 years at FGCU in which he has been the only head coach in program history. With 424 wins, he ranks 12th all-time in wins while also being 11th among active coaches in winning percentage (.735).

He has led the Eagles to six ASUN Tournament Championships and NCAA Appearances as well as 10 ASUN regular-season championships in just 15 years. He has also coached six ASUN Player of the Years, seven ASUN Defensive Players of the Year, two ASUN Goalkeepers of the Year, and three ASUN Freshmen of the Year while being named ASUN Coach of the Year five times.

The Eagles are coming off a 10-7-1 season playing one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation which included games against Tennessee, Florida, South Florida, and eventual national champion Florida State. The Green and Blue then went 7-2 in ASUN conference play, winning the ASUN East Division title. Sophomore Louise Lillback (Stockholm, Sweden/Tibble Gymnasium) was named ASUN Player of the Year and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region First Team while three other Eagles joined her on the All-ASUN team and All-South Region squad.

COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2019, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the ASUN Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just 13 seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to 13 double-digit win seasons, culminating with ASUN Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN Tournament titles as they became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN Tournament and hosted the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015 while finishing 24th in the nation. In 2016, the Eagles made it three-consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament with a third-straight ASUN Tournament title. A year later, the Eagles became the first ASUN women's soccer program to make four-straight NCAA Tournaments with another tournament title in 2017. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 184-69-27 (.705) overall record through the first 15 seasons of the program's existence, including an 93-19-15 (.791) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of 424-140-38 (.736) over 31 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.

ABOUT FGCU
FGCU teams have combined to win an incredible 90 conference regular season and tournament titles in just 14+ seasons at the Division I level. Additionally, in just 10 seasons of D-I postseason eligibility, the Eagles have had a combined 44 teams or individuals compete in NCAA championships. Eight FGCU programs have earned a top-25 national ranking in their respective sport - including women's basketball (No. 20, 2021-22), beach volleyball (No. 20, 2022) and both men's soccer (2018, 2019) and women's soccer (2018) as three of the most recent. In 2016-17, the Green and Blue posted a department-best sixth-place finish in the DI-AAA Learfield Directors' Cup and top-100 showing nationally, ahead of several Power-5 and FBS institutions. In 2018-19, the Eagles had an ASUN and state of Florida best seven teams earn the NCAA's Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate in their sport. FGCU also collectively earned a record 3.50 GPA in the classroom in the fall 2020 semester and has outperformed the general University undergraduate population for 25 consecutive semesters. The past five semesters (Fall 2019 – Fall 2021) each saw another milestone reached as all 15 programs achieved a 3.0-or-higher team GPA in each. The Eagles also served an all-time high 7,200 volunteer hours in 2017 - being recognized as one of two runners-up for the inaugural NACDA Community Service Award presented by the Fiesta Bowl.
