No. 25 Beach Volleyball Defeats No. 17 Hatters, North Florida to Open Stetson Challenge

Duo of Shelby Beisner and Trinity Rosales credited with both match-winning points on the day.

DeLAND, Fla. – The No. 25 FGCU beach volleyball team picked up a pair of key wins on Friday as the Eagles defeated North Florida, 3-2, before earning their first win over a ranked team this season, 4-1, against No. 17 Stetson on day one of the Stetson Challenge. The Green and Blue improved to 12-5 on the year and will return to action on Saturday morning against North Alabama (8 AM) and Palm Beach Atlantic (Noon).

"We played two very competitive teams today and I'm happy we came away with wins. Our team stepped up when it mattered most and battled to some great finishes," said head coach Chris Sweat. "The atmosphere was what college beach volleyball conference matches are all about and I love seeing all the girls' hard work pay off."

In the 3-2 win over the Ospreys, Shelby Beisner and Trinity Rosales picked up a three-set win for the match-winning point in the third flight. It marked the second win of the season against North Florida as FGCU also won 3-2 on Wednesday at the FIU Invitational in Miami.

Against the Hatters, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after wins in the fourth and fifth flights to kick things off. Beisner and Rosales again had the match-winning point in the third flight as they won in three sets.
