"Van showed tremendous resiliency today on the course and really played at a high level," said head coach
Andrew Danna. "He hit some terrific shots and made some plays that were really unbelievable to salvage a few holes. I was proud of how he kept his demeanor and focus throughout the day."
In Tuesday's second round action, Holmgren sat even through the first seven holes of play after a bogey on No. 2 and a birdie on No. 4. He ran into trouble just before the turn with a bogey on No. 8 followed by a double bogey on No. 9 give him a front side score of three-over 39.
On the back, he started to get on track going par on No. 10 and No. 12 while picking up a birdie on No. 11. Back-to-back bogeys on No. 13 and No. 13 pushed him to four over, but the senior was able to pick up two birdies and a par on three of the last four holes.
Holmgren was tied for eighth after Monday's first round with his two-under 69 that was highlighted by an eagle on No. 5. His first round score marked the second-best individual performance for an Eagle at an NCAA Regional. Overall, he is the fourth player in program history to reach the event joining Brandon Pena in 2012 (Athens), Edward Figueroa in 2013 (Tallahassee), and Jake Sherwin in 2015 (Lubbock).
