Women’s Golf Announces 2021 Spring Schedule

Eagles will open the year against Michigan at The Club at Renaissance on Monday, Jan. 18.

FORT MYERS, Fla. – A strong slate of competitive tournaments is on tap for the FGCU women's golf team as head coach Sarah Trew announced the 2021 spring schedule.

"We are really excited to get back on the course as a team this spring," said Trew. "We had some really great success last spring that was unfortunately cut short due to the pandemic. With nearly the entire team back plus some very talented newcomers who have worked hard this fall, we look forward to seeing how far our potential will take us."

The year will begin on Monday, Jan. 18 in a rare dual tournament against Michigan hosted by The Club at Renaissance. The meeting was a late addition to the schedule as the Wolverines were in Southwest Florida and both teams decided a competitive match would be a strong way to start the year.

From there, the Eagles will play twice in February beginning Feb. 8-9 at the Mid-American Challenge hosted by Bowling Green State University in Lakewood Ranch, Fla. Normally a match-play event, this year's edition will be a stroke play format.

Just under a week later, FGCU will head to Melbourne to play in the Moon Golf Invitational (Feb. 14-16) hosted by Louisville. That field will be one of the strongest in program history for the Eagles: Louisville, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Augusta, Florida, Florida State, Illinois, LSU, Miami, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas A&M, UCF, and Virginia.

March will begin with a trip to Jacksonville to play in the North Florida Collegiate (March 8-9) before FGCU co-hosts the Spring Break Shootout (March 15-16) alongside Georgia Southern in Dade City.

The regular-season will conclude with a trip to the Brickyard Collegiate (April 5-6) hosted by Mercer in Macon, Ga.

The 2021 ASUN Women's Golf Championship will be April 18-20 in Valdosta, Ga., while the NCAA Regionals will run May 10-12. The NCAA Championship will be hosted by Grayhawk Golf Club from May 21-26 in Scottsdale, Ariz.

This past spring, before being shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic, FGCU produced a 67-1 head-to-head record with its only loss coming to Kiawah Island Classic host and champion, College of Charleston. The Eagles produced a 295.44 team scoring average, which was three shots better than the previous record of 298.88.

Looking ahead to this spring, Trew will enter her 10th season in 2020-21 with a loaded roster as the team returns everyone, including fifth-year senior Ailsa Clark (Navarre, Fla./Navarre), who will get another year due to CoVID-19.

SUSTAINING FLIGHT
To help offset the financial impact of COVID-19, FGCU Athletics has launched the Sustaining Flight Fundraiser and Auction. The fundraising campaign will help mitigate operational revenue loss and the additional expenses incurred as a result of COVID-19 protocols. All funds raised during the campaign will go to support areas that directly impact student-athletes.

In lieu of hosting the annual Night at the Nest gala this year, one of FGCU's most successful fundraising events, the department will be hosting a virtual, online auction from Monday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 4. Fans and supporters will be able to bid on exclusive memorabilia, trip packages, unique event experiences and more. For more information, visit www.fgcuathletics.com/sustainingflight
