@FGCU_Softball Welcomes #16 Indiana for a Doubleheader Tuesday Evening

FORT MYERS, FL – The FGCU softball team (9-9) returns home after a five-game West Coast road swing to face No. 16 Indiana in a doubleheader slated to start at 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the FGCU Softball Complex.

Last Time Out
The Eagles are coming off a 9-0 win in six innings against San Diego State last Tuesday night. FGCU posted crooked numbers in the fifth and sixth frames to put the Aztecs away as Riley Randolph (St. Petersburg, FL./Northeast HS) moved to 7-5 overall. In her complete-game outing, the lefty fanned 10 batters while surrendering four hits, tossing 90 pitches. At the plate, sophomore Haley Morrell (Tampa, FL./Academy of Holy Names) finished the contest going 2-for-3 with three RBI.

The Green and Blue
Sitting at 9-9 overall, FGCU is led offensively by senior Racquel Fournet (Windermere, FL./Windermere Preparatory School), who has so far recorded a team-best 17 hits for a .293 BA. Fournet is the only Eagle to make a start in each of the 18 games this season. Meanwhile, Morrell is third on the squad with seven RBI while Fournet and freshman Reedy Davenport (St. Johns, FL./Bartram Trail HS) are tied for the team lead in RBI (eight). 

The pitching staff as whole boasts a collective 1.61 ERA, led by Randolph with a 0.73 ERA. In seven appearances with six starts, sophomore Marissa Mesiemore (Bushnell, FL./South Sumter HS) is 2-3 with a 2.56 ERA.

Scouting the Hoosiers
Indiana is 21-3 overall after a 4-1 weekend in Clearwater, FL.  Offensively, six Hoosiers have made a start in all 24 games, led by Katie Lancefield who is hitting .349. She leads the team in RBI (17) and home runs (five).

In the circle, Tara Trainer has recorded 15 starts in 21 appearances. She is 16-1 overall with a 0.83 ERA. Emily Goodin is 3-0 and owns a 1.24 ERA. IU has utilized four pitchers this season as they have combined to post a 1.34 ERA while holding opposing batters to a .195 average.

The Hoosiers have been receiving votes or ranked inside the top-25 since after week one their season. 

Matchup History
FGCU is 1-0 all-time against IU. The last meeting between both teams came back in 2009 where the Eagles claimed a 7-5 win in Clearwater.

FGCU will travel up to Clearwater for the USF Tournament and face five teams in three days beginning Friday at 4:45 p.m. against LIU-Brooklyn.

COACH DEIROS
The founding father of FGCU softball, David Deiros is in his 17th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to a 621-323-3 (.657) overall mark, 13 seasons with a winning record, and nine campaigns with 35 wins. Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.
