@FGCU_MTen Prepares for Senior Night, Stetson

The Eagles conclude the regular season Saturday with a 5 p.m. contest against Stetson

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Seeding implications are at stake Saturday when the FGCU men's tennis team meets Stetson in the regular-season finale. The Eagles (8-10, 3-2 ASUN) and Hatters (16-3, 4-1 ASUN) are set to meet at 5 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex, which also marks Senior Night for two FGCU seniors.

Should FGCU win, the Eagles will enter next weekend's ASUN Championships as the No. 2 seed. However, a loss could see the Eagles slide to as low as No. 4.

SENIOR CELEBRATION
Between doubles and singles, the FGCU tennis program will honor both Austin Bates (Marietta, Ga./Pope HS) and Oliver Landert (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual School/Florida). The duo has helped the Green and Blue reach new heights, including two NCAA Tournament appearances and back-to-back ASUN regular season titles.

DEFENDING THE NEST
FGCU's success at home has been a vital aspect of the program's success under head coach CJ Weber. Since the 2012-13 season, Weber's second in Southwest Florida, the Eagles are 43-21 at the FGCU Tennis Complex. During that stretch, the Green and Blue have posted winning records in all but one of those seasons, including a 7-1 record in 2014-15 and a 9-0 mark in 2015-16.

This season, the Eagles are 7-3 at home. FGCU finishes with four of the final six matches at home.

REPEATING THE PAST
Last season, FGCU uncharacteristically struggled in ASUN play, finishing with a 3-3 record. This season, FGCU is 3-2 in ASUN play following a pair of wins last weekend. Despite losing three its final four matches to end the regular season last year, FGCU played its best match of the season against Memphis to conclude the year and went on to win three-straight to claim a second ASUN Tournament championship.

ASUN STANDINGS
UNF clinched its second-straight regular season title and the No. 1 overall seed. The field is set for next weekend's tournament, though seeding is still up for grabs. Complete ASUN standings are as follows:

School ASUN Overall
#1 UNF* 6-0 9-8
Stetson* 4-1 16-3
FGCU* 3-2 8-10
Kennesaw State 2-3 8-9
Lipscomb* 2-3 7-11
NJIT* 1-4 9-9
USC Upstate 0-5 5-18
* Clinched a spot in the ASUN Championship

SCOUTING THE HATTERS
Stetson has won a league-high 16 matches this spring and sits second in the ASUN with a 4-1 record. Stetson has seen great success up and down the lineup, with Malik Bhatnagar owning a 10-3 mark at No. 1 singles and Loic Blanco holding an 11-1 record at No. 2.

Bhatnagar and Angus Bradshaw bring an 11-1 record from No. 2 doubles into the weekend, the most successful record from any Hatter pairings.

The Eagles have won five-straight against the Hatters and stand 7-4 all-time against their in-state rivals.

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU claimed both matches last weekend by 6-1 finals. The Eagles began the weekend with a victory over NJIT before concluding the weekend with a win over USC Upstate.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber who has coached 26 ASUN All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his sixth year, Weber has compiled a 81-66 (.549) overall record and a 32-16 (.694) record in ASUN play. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever ASUN Championship and first-ever ASUN Regular Season title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber led Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament - the program's first appearance. The Eagles completed consecutive perfect ASUN seasons in 2016 and back-to-back conference titles as well as a second-straight Coach of the Year honor for Weber. FGCU again won the ASUN Championship in 2017, advancing to its second NCAA Tournament.
