KANSAS CITY, Mo – A trio of Eagles were dubbed with All-Region honors as
Preston Kilwien,
Shak Adams and
O'Vonte Mullings landed on the All-Atlantic Region Second Team, announced by the United Soccer Coaches Association Wednesday afternoon.
With three members receiving honors, the Eagles collected the most out of any other ASUN men's soccer program in the region.
Kilwien (Pleasant Hill, Calif./College Park HS) logged in more than 1,450 minutes on the pitch this season for the Eagles as he started in all 16 matches. The unanimous ASUN Defensive Player of the Year by the end of the regular season, Kilwien anchored an Eagle backline that led the conference in goals allowed (1.34). Throughout his tenure dawning the Green and Blue, the College Park HS product has tallied four goals to go along with five assists for a career point total of 15.
"Preston stepped up this season and became a much more complete and consistent player," stated head coach
Jesse Cormier. "His presence and leadership impacted many games for us. He's built a much more complete game for us and I feel he's ready for the challenges at the next level."
Adams (Antioch, Tenn./Cane Ridge HS) was at the top of the FGCU offense all year long as the junior bagged eight goals and dished out eight helpers – both team-bests – for 24 points. Of those eight goals, three were game winners. Adams capped off his season starting in 15 contests for the Eagles, firing 29 shots with 19 coming on target.
"Shak was the difference for us in many games this fall," stated coach Cormier. "With his dynamic qualities, he would either score or create the moments we needed to have a successful season. We're excited to see what his capabilities in his senior year after another off-season of development.
Mullings (Toronto, Ontario/ Northview Heights Secondary) had a breakout freshman year scoring seven goals while adding four helpers, leading him to be named the ASUN Freshman of the Year. The Toronto native appeared in all 16 matches for the Eagles this season – starting 14 of them – as he led the squad with shots (41) and shots on target (26).
"O'Vonte is off to a very good start as a new player here at FGCU at this level," said Cormier. With his skill and explosiveness, he was able to more than meet the standard at times and we as a staff, feel with a highly productive off-season and some targeted hard work next summer, he can do even more for our team. He can consistently become a special player in every game for us next fall."
