@FGCU_MGolf Completes Action At Kennesaw State’s Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – The FGCU men's golf team wrapped up its second-to-last fall tournament of the year on Tuesday at Kennesaw State's Pinetree Intercollegiate at Pinetree Country Club, finishing in 10th place.

The Eagles recorded a 309 final round to complete the 36-hole event with a 615 total – an uncharacteristic score for a team which had not shot consecutive rounds in the 300s since last year's regular-season finale. Southern Illinois won the sixth-annual tournament with a 583 total, outlasting Wisconsin and host Kennesaw State by a single stroke.

Andrew Potter (Naples, Fla./Community School of Naples) led FGCU with 75 in the final round. It was the junior's second-straight 3-over round to finish as the Eagles' low man with a 150 total to tie for 20th – his sixth top-20 showing as a member of the Green and Blue.

Like Potter, Grant Renegar (McComb, Miss./Meridian CC/Parklane Academy) matched his opening-round performance with another 76 in the final round to post a tie for 26th. That T-26 was equaled by Robert Renner Jr. (Arlington Heights, Ill./Saint Viator HS) who signed for a final-round 77 after opening the invitational with a 75 on Monday.

"It was a very disappointing day for the guys. The potential and ability is there, but accessing it will take time to develop," stated FGCU head coach Eric Booker, who had just one senior in his lineup this week. "The scores don't reflect the progress they have been making with their playing mindset. We're looking forward to hosting our home tournament this coming week and hopefully finishing the fall season on a high note."

Doug Smith (Windermere, Fla./Olympia HS) and James Leadbetter (Bradenton, Fla./Arkansas/IMG Academy) rounded out the FGCU scoring for the week with final rounds of 81 and 85.

Due to heavy rains in the area on Monday morning, tournament officials elected to switch to a 36-hole event as opposed to 54 holes, playing 18 on Monday and Tuesday.

The Green and Blue will look to get back on track when they wrap up their fall season by hosting the Homewood/Hilton Garden Airport & FGCU Classic at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero. The 54-hole tournament will take place next Sunday and Monday, Oct. 29-30 with 36 holes being contested Sunday and the final 18 taking place on Monday. Action commences at 8 a.m. both days, and admission is free.
