@FGCU_WSoccer Travels to Coral Gables to Face Hurricanes

Thursday's match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

MIAMI, Fla. – For the first time in two weeks, the FGCU women's soccer team will hit the road as the 2016 season continues. The Eagles head to the East Coast to meet ACC-foe Miami Thursday at 7 p.m.

For fans who cannot join FGCU in Coral Gables, the match will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra (available on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app). In addition, live stats are available through HurricaneSports.com.

LAST TIME OUT
After securing its second win of the season with a dramatic late goal against FIU from Tabby Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS), the Eagles welcomed Alabama to the FGCU Soccer Complex Sunday for an afternoon contest. The game was wide open for the final 60 minutes, resulting in a career-day for goalkeeper Melissa Weck (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS). The Tide scored the lone goal of the match in the 62nd minute and the visitors would hang on despite FGCU pressing forward for the final 30 minutes. The Green and Blue thought they had scored the equalizer with under a minute to go, but it was disallowed when it was ruled Tindell was offside.

WECK HONORED BY TOPDRAWER
Weck made 11 saves against the Crimson Tide, one shy of an FGCU single-game record to garner some national attention. Soccer outlet TopDrawerSoccer.com featured Weck on their Team of the Week for her efforts, which also included a 1-0 shutout victory over FIU, the second shutout of her career.

On the year, Weck holds a 0.77 goals against average through five matches. In just under 500 minutes of playing time, the freshman has recorded 20 saves, with two shutouts and a save percentage of .833.

SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
At 5-1, Miami features a strong defensive unit along with a dangerous offensive attack. Kristina Fisher stole the headlines in her first collegiate weekend, earning NSCAA Player of the Week honors. Fisher has scored six goals while adding five assists for the 'Canes this season to lead the team with 17 points. Meanwhile, Gracie Lachowecki has scored five goals with one assist, good for 11 points. In total, Miami features six players with two or more goals already in 2016.

Defensively, Miami has allowed two goals this season for a +18 goal differential (20-2). Those two goals were conceded against current No. 9 and FGCU opponent Ohio State. The Hurricanes lost to the Buckeyes, but started a current streak of more than 285 minutes where Miami has not allowed a goal. Because of those efforts, goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce was named the NSCAA Player of the Week on Tuesday. Tullis-Joyce enters Thursday's match with a 0.37 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.

In addition to Ohio State, Miami has also faced fellow ASUN opponents UNF, Stetson, and Jacksonville. The 'Canes are 3-0 against ASUN members in 2016.

FGCU trails the all-time series 1-4-0 including a tough 1-0 loss last season in Fort Myers. FGCU's lone win over Miami was in 2014 in Coral Gables. Paulina Speckmaier (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida) and Tindell scored the Eagles.

#TINDELLTRACKER
Already atop the FGCU record books in goals scored (53) and points (129), Tindell now has her sights set on FGCU's assists record and multiple ASUN records as well. The senior forward has one goal and one assist already in 2016 and is now five assists away from tying FGCU's assists record of 28, currently held by 2013 graduate Ashley Ciesielczyk.

Should Tindell score eight more goals, the Ocala-native will be tied atop the ASUN record book with 61 career goals. Should she add another goal to break the record or tally two more assists, Tindell will share the title of the ASUN's all-time points leader. Centenary's Shelley Marusak (1993-1995) is currently the all-time leading goal scorer in ASUN history while Jacksonville's Marit Foss (1997-2000) headlines the ASUN's points category.

COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the Atlantic Sun Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just nine seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to nine double-digit win seasons, culminating with Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN tournament championships and became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN tournament and host the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015, while finishing 24th in the nation. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a 116-44-19 (70.7 W%) overall record through the first ten seasons of the program's existence, including a 60-9-10 (76.2 W%) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of 356-115-30 (74.3 W%) over 25 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.
