FORT MYERS, Fla. – After being forced to wait an extra week for the start of ASUN Conference play, the FGCU women's soccer team concludes the longest homestand of the season with two conference foes. The Green and Blue welcome both USC Upstate and NJIT this weekend as FGCU hopes to set the tone for a seventh-straight ASUN regular season title.
Friday's contest against the Spartans is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Additionally, fans are encouraged to wear white to the contest.
Sunday's meeting with the Highlanders is a Pinkout and is slated for a 1 p.m. start. Shirts will be on sale at the match for $10 with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
Tickets for individual matches remain at $7 for adults and $5 for youth and military. An All Sports Pass is again available at $100, which gives fans admission to all ticketed FGCU home regular season events, excluding men's and women's basketball. Group rates are also available for matches. For more information, please call the FGCU Ticket Office at
239-590-7145. Tickets can also be purchased at FGCUTickets.com.
For fans who cannot attend the match both matches will be streamed on ASUN.tv and live stats are available through FGCUathletics.com.
LAST TIME OUT
The energy and excitement surrounding the conference opener was eliminated due to inclement weather in the Fort Myers area Friday evening. While both FGCU and Stetson did take the field for 15 minutes, the match never began and was postponed to Oct. 19 at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
The Eagles ended their nonconference slate on a high note Sunday, scoring a season-high seven goals against Fairleigh Dickinson.
Tabby Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) scored the first goal of the match in the eighth minute and FGCU netted another thanks to
Emilie Olsen (Frekhaug, Norway/Tertnes VGS) just a few minutes later. Olsen was the first of three Eagles to score their first collegiate goal as
Silvana Gordon (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) and
Jamie Finn (Dublin, Ireland/St. Finians Community College) followed Olsen's lead with goals in the first half.
Olsen scored another in the second half between a
Paulina Speckmaier (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida) converted penalty attempt and another spot kick conversion by
Lauren Greene (Lakeland, Fla./George Jenkins HS) for the 7-1 final tally.
WHERE THEY STAND
Thanks to three-straight wins, the Eagles continued to rise in both conference and national rankings. As a team, FGCU is tops in the ASUN in assists per game (1.60), goals against average (0.887), shutout percentage (.500) and total assists (16). On the national level, FGCU is 39th in shutout percentage.
With her four-point match, Tindell overtook the conference lead in points with 18 on the year and also moved to 25th in the NCAA. The senior remains fourth in game winning goals (4), and is now 39th in goals per game (0.70) and 31st in total goals (7).
Meanwhile,
Melissa Weck (Yorba Linda, Calif./Esperanza HS) is on track to post one of the more impressive campaigns for a goalkeeper in FGCU history. The freshman sits atop the conference rankings with five shutouts while also checking in 20th nationally in all of Division I.
ASUN SUPREMACY
What FGCU has done during conference play places the Eagles among some of the more historic runs in NCAA history. Since 2010, FGCU has climbed to the top of the regular season standings, bringing a streak of six-straight conference titles into 2016, unofficially the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history and the longest such active streak in Division I.
Perhaps even more impressive is FGCU's form over recent seasons. The Eagles are 24-0-1 in the last 25 regular season home conference matches, the third longest active streak in NCAA. FGCU has not lost a regular season home match in ASUN play since 2009.
Coinciding with FGCU's impressive home record is its overall record. Heading into the 2016 season, FGCU is unbeaten in 26-straight matches against conference foes in all competitions, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I. FGCU's last loss to any conference foe came Oct. 5, 2012, a 2-0 defeat at UNF.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
USC Upstate comes to Fort Myers looking for its first win of 2016, entering the second week of conference play with an 0-9-2 mark overall and a 0-1 record in ASUN action. Upstate dropped its opener 3-0 to the Eagles' Sunday opponent NJIT last week. Delaney Bussey and Autumn Gore have scored the only two goals for a Spartans team that has been outscored 22-2 this season.
Brooke Bailey leads the ASUN with 82 saves, averaging 7.45 saves per game. The junior has posted a 1.92 goals against average and is the only goalkeeper to appear for USC Upstate.
The Eagles have never lost to the Spartans as the tenth all-time meeting approaches. Since 2007, FGCU holds an 8-0-1 record against USC Upstate with the only blemish a 0-0 draw in 2010. Additionally, the Green and Blue are a perfect 5-0 at the FGCU Soccer Complex. Heading into Friday's meeting, FGCU has outscored Upstate 41-0.
SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS
A vastly improved NJIT squad faces Stetson Friday before facing the Eagles Sunday. The Highlanders are coming off their first ASUN victory since moving to the conference last season, a 3-0 victory over USC Upstate. NJIT won two games last season, and have already doubled last season's that total this season with a 5-4-2 mark overall and a 1-0 record in conference play. Neema Liverpool, the reigning ASUN Player of the Week, has five goals on the season to lead the Highlanders. Liverpool is aided offensively by eight additional goal scorers, including Nicole Baldassini and Melanie Zrno who each have three.
Karen David has started every match in goal for NJIT allowing nine goals this season for a 0.86 goals against average, good for second in the conference.
This will be just the second meeting between these two programs. Last season, the Eagles took the trip north to Newark and defeated NJIT 6-0.
Nikki Hudson (Baltimore, Md./Roland Park County School/Rutgers),
Shay Jackson (Parkville, Mo./Park Hill South HS), Speckmaier, and Greene all scored for the Green and Blue.
#TINDELLTRACKER
Already atop the FGCU record books in goals scored (59) and points (144), Tindell now has her sights set on FGCU's assists record and multiple ASUN records as well. The senior forward has seven goals and four assists already in 2016 and is now two assists away from tying FGCU's assists record of 28, currently held by 2013 graduate Ashley Ciesielczyk.
Should Tindell score two more goals, the Ocala native will be tied atop the ASUN record book with 61 career goals. Should she add another goal to break the record or tally two assists, Tindell will share the title of the ASUN's all-time points leader.

UP NEXT
FGCU hits the road for a pair of conference matches, two of the three total ASUN road matches FGCU will play in 2016. The Eagles first travel to Kennesaw, Ga. to face the Owls Friday afternoon. Then on Sunday, FGCU meets Lipscomb in a rematch of the 2015 ASUN Women's Soccer Championship Final.
COACH JIM BLANKENSHIP
A veteran of over two decades in collegiate coaching, head coach
Jim Blankenship, who was named the ASUN Coach of the Year in 2012, 2013, 2014 and now 2015, has built FGCU women's soccer into a yearly contender in the Atlantic Sun Conference and a rising program in the South Region in just nine seasons. Blankenship started the program in 2007 and has since guided the Eagles to nine double-digit win seasons, culminating with Atlantic Sun Regular Season Championships in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015. In 2011 and 2012 he also led the Eagles to back-to-back ASUN tournament championships and became the first team in the history of the university to make it to the NCAA Tournament. The Eagles went on to win the 2014 ASUN tournament and host the first NCAA Championship event on campus. The Eagles earned their fourth NCAA Tournament appearance with the 2015 ASUN Tournament Championship and won their first NCAA game at USF in 2015, while finishing 24th in the nation. Blankenship has guided FGCU to a
121-46-19 (70.7 W%) overall record through the first ten seasons of the program's existence, including a 60-10-10 (76.2 W%) mark in the ASUN. Blankenship's impressive career record of
361-117-30 (74.3 W%) over 25 seasons has come while leading FGCU, the University of Miami, Lynn University and St. Thomas University.
