FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU baseball team (20-19-1, 7-4 A-Sun) will take a break from Atlantic Sun action this weekend and welcome in Massachusetts (11-16, 7-8 A-10) for a four-game set. The Minutemen are the second Atlantic 10 foe the Green and Blue will square off with this season after sweeping Fordham over two games earlier. These games will be the first ever meetings between these two programs.

UMASS
UMass struggled to a 15-21 record last season with a 12-15 mark in the A-10. So far the Minutemen have posted a 7-8 record in conference play and an 11-16 mark overall. At the plate they are led by Kyle Adie who is hitting .337 with 35 hits and five doubles. Adam Picard leads the team with 16 RBI. Brandon Walsh boasts the best ERA of any starter this weekend with a 2.04 while Ryan Moloney has made the most starts (6) with a 2-3 record to show for it.
HEAD COACH MATCHUP
In 13 seasons of work, FGCU head coach Dave Tollett has compiled a 453-255-3 record as the only head coach in the program's history. He will match up with Mike Stone who is in his 28th season at the helm of the Minutemen. Stone has compiled a 648-609-3 record during that span.

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU struggled in game one at Kennesaw State on last Saturday but continued its string of late inning comebacks in the second game by erasing a three-run deficit over the final two innings to force extras before coming away with the victory in 10 innings.

Mike Murray (West Palm Beach, Fla./Forrest Hill HS) made the start in game one for FGCU and and was very good with exception of a shaky third inning and a home run in the seventh. The junior worked 7.1 innings and gave up five runs, four earned, while striking out seven against two walks. Jack English (Delray Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) would mop up the final two thirds.

At the plate the Green and Blue would manage just three hits, one each from Jake Noll (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS), Zach Spivey (Ormond Beach, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) and Blake Berger (Jacksonville, Fla./Santa Fe College). Matt Reardon (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) would draw two walks and Tyler Selesky (Estero, Fla./Estero HS) worked one free pass at the top of the order. Three times the Eagles put the lead off man on base and twice that runner reached third base. The Eagles would strand six runners in total.

In game two is was Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) on the hill for the Green and Blue. He would not factor in the decision after working 6.1 innings, giving up eight hits and five runs, three earned, while striking out one and walking two. Sterling Koerner (Fort Pierce, Fla./John Carol HS)came on in relief and kept the Owls at bay over the final 3.2 innings, allowing four hits and striking out two without issuing a walk to secure his fourth victory of the season.

Reardon performed the duty of table setter at the highest level in game two, going 4-5 at the dish with three runs, a solo home run, his second of the season and a walk, raising his season average to .329. Behind him, Selesky went 2-5 and drove in the game-winning run in the top of the 10th with a sacrifice fly. Nick Rivera(Cape Coral, Fla./Bishop Verot HS) got back on track after a hitless game one with a 2-3 effort, driving in two runs. Noll went 1-5 and Spivey went 2-5 in the four and five holes while Adam Eggnatz (Tampa, Fla./Middle Georgia College) and Anderson each added a hit at the bottom of the order.

TYLER SELESKY
The hometown kid, Selesky has been one of the most reliable individuals in the FGCU lineup this season. The Estero native has posted a .299 batting average primarily in the No. 2 spot in the lineup batting behind Reardon and ahead of Rivera. He has 41 hits this year with three doubles, a triple and 22 RBI. He has walked 25 times which ranks second on the team behind only Rivera and has an on base percentage of .410. While batting on the second spot, Selesky has had a large number of opportunities to move runners. He ranks second in the nation with 15 sacrifice hits with the majority being sacrifice bunts, seven more than the closest Eagle behind him.

FRESHMEN
FGCU has found success by leaning on a collection of freshmen this season after losing some key contributors to graduation and the MLB draft following the record-setting 2014 season. Zach Spivey (Ormond Beach, Fla./Spruce Creek HS) and Matt Reardon (Palm City, Fla./Martin County) have been the most impactful with a combined 74 starts between them. Spivey has served as the primary left fielder for the Green and Blue while Reardon has moved over to shortstop after spending the first part of the season as the second baseman. Spivey is hitting .304 in his debut campaign with six doubles and 14 RBI after driving in six runs two weeks ago including the first home run of his career while Reardon is hitting .313 in the leadoff spot with 17 RBI and five doubles. He will be coming off a 4-5 performance at Kennesaw State that included his second homer of the seaosn.

SOPHOMORE RELIEVERS
Garrett Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto HS) and Sterling Koerner (Fort Pierce, Fla./John Carrol HS) emerged as the top arms out of the bullpen for FGCU a year ago and carried over those roles into this season as the two have combined to make 30 total appearances while Koerner has made one start. Only Mike Murray and Brady Anderson have thrown more innings than Koerner who has been brilliant in his sophomore season, tossing 46.2 frames with a 3.28 ERA and a career-high 42 strikeouts which rank third on the team against a staggeringly low three walks. The Fort Pierce native has built a 4-3 record with one save while holding opponents to a .258 mark at the plate. Garrett has produced a 3.29 ERA with a 3-3 record and an FGCU best three saves. He has collected 23 punch outs and just six walks while holding opponents to ten earned runs over 27.1 innings.

#DRAFTCITY
The Eagles would have a total of three players taken in the 2014 MLB draft, Junior outfielder Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS), Junior third-baseman/pitcher Zack Tillery (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier HS) and Redshirt-Junior, left-handed reliever Ryan Atwood (Austin, Texas/Westwood HS/Navarro College). The Eagles have now produced 22 draft picks in their history with the most notable being 2014 AL Cy Young Award Finalist and three-time All-Star Chris Sale who was chosen in the first round, 13th overall by the Chicago White Sox in 2010. Suchy became the second-highest FGCU player ever taken when he went to the Pittsburgh Pirates in the fifth round in last June's draft and is one of just seven players in FGCU history to be chosen in the top ten rounds. The Eagles would have a program record seven players selected during the 2013 draft. Freshman left-hander Devin Smeltzeris the lone FGCU player on the roster this season who has been drafted previously. He was selected in the 33rd round of the 2014 draft by the San Diego Padres but instead opted to attend FGCU.
