@FGCU_MTEN Wraps Up Regular Season at Stetson

DeLAND, Fla. – After earning at least a share of its first-ever Atlantic Sun regular season title last weekend at The Nest, the FGCU men's tennis team (14-5, 5-0 A-Sun) will wrap up the regular season on the road against Stetson (11-8, 3-2 A-Sun) this Saturday, Apr. 11 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.

FGCU, who already secured the No. 1 seed for the upcoming Atlantic Sun Tennis Tournament, will have a chance to win the regular season title outright with a win over Stetson. FGCU will share the regular season title with UNF if the Eagles lose to the Hatters.

"Stetson is a great rival school of ours," said head coach CJ Weber. "We had great matches with them the last couple of years. Tomorrow's match will be another war and we need to make sure that we prepare for this match the same way that we prepared for out last several matches."

LAST TIME OUT
FGCU welcomed No. 67 UNF to The Nest in a pivotal contest on Senior Day, Apr. 4, as the winner of the match would earn the first-seed in the upcoming A-Sun Tennis Championship. The Eagles rose to the occasion, edging the Ospreys in the doubles contest before winning five out of six singles in straight sets to win the contest 7-0. The trio of seniors in Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC), Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS (Bradenton, Fla.)) and Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) went undefeated against the Ospreys, while Bao clinched the doubles point and the match point for the Eagles.

THE TRENDS
• FGCU has a combined record of 25-5 in A-Sun singles play.
• Vives, who ranks No. 120 in the latest ITA National Singles Rankings, owns a team-leading 16-2 dual-season singles record.
• Beiler and Vives are 5-0 in A-Sun play while Austin Bates (Marietta. Ga./Pope HS) is 3-0.
Lucas Vaz (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Colegio Fleming/Tulsa) and Ricky Ventura (Barcelona, Spain/University of Barcelona) are 9-3 on the doubles court this spring for FGCU.
• Over the course of the season, Beiler owns a perfect 7-0 record in the No. 5 slot.

THE DECORATED DUO
Serving as two out of only three FGCU players to win a combination of 100 matches, the senior co-captains of Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) and Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS (Bradenton, Fla.)) are arguably one of the most successful duos in program history. Bao has produced solid and consistent results in the last three and half years for the Eagles. After transferring from the University of Southern California, Vives has established himself as one of the best players in the Southeast region in his three years as an Eagle.

WHO IS HE? MIKEY B!
After a year of rehab from a right shoulder surgery, Beiler is making an admirable comeback for FGCU. The Eagles' primary No. 6 singles player, is currently 9-3 on the spring dual-match season, highlighted by a dominating win over Andrew Rimington of No. 65 UCSB by a score of 6-1, 6-3. This past weekend Beiler was in a fine form, beating Zach Goldberg of No. 67 North Florida 6-3, 6-1 to stay undefeated in conference play.

SCOUTING STETSON
Stetson comes into this weekend's contest with an 11-8 overall mark and are 3-2 in A-Sun play.

Reigning A-Sun First-Team member Nathan Debut owns the No. 1 singles slot for the Hatters, going 5-6 on the season. Freshman Loic Blanco leads the Stetson squad with a 13-4 record, mainly from the No. 2 and 3 slots. On the doubles court, Nathan Debut and Chester Espie have a team-best 9-2 record in the No. 2 slot.

NEXT UP
FGCU will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. for the 2015 Atlantic Sun Tennis Championship hosted by North Florida next weekend, Apr. 15 to 17. The Eagles will receive the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye.

CJ WEBER
FGCU is led by CJ Weber, who has coached 10 A-Sun All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In his third season, Weber guided Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament – the program's first appearance. His teams have continually posted winning records and finished the 2014 season a Division-I best third in the conference with 12 wins.
