TABBY TINDELLTindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week three times this season and for an A-Sun record six times in her career en route to breaking the FGCU career goals record in just her 29th career game three weeks ago.
With 29 goals and eight assists (66 points) in her career Tindell now ranks third on the all-time points list behind only Lindsay Haw (68 points) and
Wacker (71 points) after becoming the fourth individual to reach the 50-point plateau with two goals opposite Wofford and the third to reach 60 points with a pair of goals opposite UNF. She is also now the FGCU all-time leader with 11 game-winning goals.
With 14 goals already this season, Tindell is just one score shy of matching her own single-season record of 15 and has already matched her debut season total of four helpers. She leads the A-Sun with those 14 goals and has a comfortable lead with 32 points. The next closest individuals are Wacker and Speckmaier with (17 pts). The first non-FGCU player on the A-Sun points list is Macy Hamblin of Northern Kentucky (12 pts).
There has been no sophomore slump for Tindell who put together one of, if not the greatest individual seasons in program history in just her first year suiting up for the Green and Blue. She established single-season program records in points (34), goals (15), goals per game (0.75), shots (71), shots per game (3.55), shots on goal (44) and shots on goal per game (2.20) and is well on her way to challenging those marks again.
Twice this season Tindell has been named the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week which recognizes the top performances of players nationwide. Individuals from national powers, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Arizona State, Wisconsin, Duke, UCLA, Florida, Penn State, Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Kansas and Georgia are all represented on the list alongside Tindell. MEL ARNOLDFor the first time in her career
Melissa Arnold (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek Regional HS) was named the Atlantic Sun Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. The senior assisted two FGCU goals over the weekend including the game-winner at Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon.
Arnold has collected three assists this season and scored her lone goal on a penalty kick in the Eagles' 4-0 victory over Murray State in September. The N.J. native collected a career-best eight assists in 2013 to lead both the Eagles and the Atlantic Sun and has handed out 16 helpers throughout her career which rank fourth in FGCU history. She has appeared in 74 games in her career which are just four short of the program record of 78 set by Danielle Faller in 2012. Only
Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) has appeared in more games (75) among active players. Arnold has ranks fifth all-time with 5783 minutes played in her career.
LATELYSince dropping a 2-0 result to No. 16 South Carolina on Sept. 14 on a neutral field, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 17-3 with four shutouts in six games, including an 8-1 advantage against A-Sun competition. FGCU is 6-2 on the road this season and 4-0 at home. The record for most wins in a single-season is 14 set in back-to-back seasons by the NCAA Tournament bound 2011 and '12 Eagles.
NEXT UPIn a rematch of the 2013 A-Sun Championship game, Jacksonville returns to the FGCU Soccer Complex as the defending A-Sun Tournament Champions on Oct. 18. The Eagles peppered JU with 30 shots in the A-Sun title game but came away with a scoreless tie before falling in penalty kicks. The Dolphins are the only A-Sun program that FGCU does not have a winning record against (2-2-5). This season the Dolphins are 8-5-1 and 2-1 in A-Sun play with their lone loss coming in the form of a 1-0 result at Lipscomb.
Palm Beach Atlantic (2-5-1) stops in on Oct. 22 before FGCU concludes the regular season by welcoming Stetson on Oct. 25. Holding a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series, FGCU has not lost to the Hatters since 2007 and defeated SU last season on the road 4-0. The Hatters are 3-9-1 in 2014 with a 1-2 record in A-Sun play.
