FORT MYERS, Fla. – In a rematch of the 2013 Atlantic Sun Championship game, the FGCU women's soccer team (12-3, 5-0 A-Sun) readies for Jacksonville (9-6-1, 3-2 A-Sun) who returns to the FGCU Soccer Complex as the defending A-Sun Tournament Champions Saturday (Oct. 18). The Eagles, who are already off to their best start in A-Sun play in program history, will be looking to take one step closer to clinching a fifth-consecutive A-Sun regular season championship.
JACKSONVILLEThe Eagles peppered JU with 31 shots in the A-Sun title game but came away with a scoreless tie before falling in penalty kicks. The Dolphins are the only A-Sun program that FGCU does not have a winning record against (2-2-5). This season the Dolphins are 9-6-1 and 3-2 in A-Sun play with their losses coming in the form of a 1-0 result at Lipscomb and a 1-0 defeat at home against Kennesaw State.
LATELYSince dropping a 2-0 result to No. 16 South Carolina on Sept. 14 on a neutral field, the Eagles have outscored their opponents 21-4 with five shutouts, including a 12-2 advantage against A-Sun competition. FGCU is 6-2 on the road this season and 6-0 at home. The Eagles are also challenging the record for most wins in a single-season which is 14 set in back-to-back seasons by the NCAA Tournament bound 2011 and '12 Eagles.
TABBY – Ranked as No. 92 Player in the Nation by TopDrawerSoccer.comSophomore
Tabby Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) scored her single-season record tying 15th goal of the season just eight seconds into the Eagles' 2-1 win over Lipscomb last Sunday afternoon which is the fastest goal scored to start a game in FGCU history, tied for the fastest in A-Sun history and tied for sixth fastest in NCAA history. She also added a pair of assists over the weekend en route to being named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week for the third time this season.
The TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week recognizes the top performances of players nationwide. Individuals from national powers, Rutgers, DePaul, Clemson, Florida, UCLA, Florida State, Washington, Pepperdine and Virginia are all represented on the list alongside Tindell. Shannen Wacker (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa HS) took the opening kick against Lipscomb and carried it straight down the center of the field before serving the ball through to Tindell just as she crossed into the box. Tindell took one touch and slid the ball past the diving goalkeeper for the score. The goal was Tindell's 30th of her career making the Ocala native the first player in program history to reach that mark while also making her the second player in program history to reach the 70-point plateau.
Tindell has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week three times this season and for an A-Sun record six times in her career en route to breaking the FGCU career goals record in just her 29th career game three weeks ago.
With 30 goals and ten assists (70 points) in her career Tindell now ranks second on the all-time points list behind only
Wacker (74 points) after becoming the fourth individual to reach the 50-point plateau with two goals opposite Wofford and the third to reach 60 points with a pair of goals opposite UNF. She is also now the FGCU all-time leader with 11 game-winning goals.
Tindell leads the A-Sun with 15 goals and has a comfortable lead with 36 points, which exceed her own FGCU single-season record of 34 points. The next closest individuals are Wacker and Speckmaier with 20 and 17, respectively. The first non-FGCU player on the A-Sun points list is Macy Hamblin of Northern Kentucky (16 pts).
There has been no sophomore slump for Tindell who put together one of, if not the greatest individual seasons in program history in just her first year suiting up for the Green and Blue. She established single-season program records in points (34), goals (15), goals per game (0.75), shots (71), shots per game (3.55), shots on goal (44) and shots on goal per game (2.20) and is well on her way to challenging those marks again.
SHANNEN WACKERThree times in her career and one time this season Wacker has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week. The senior collected a pair of goals in the Eagles' 3-0 win at North Florida and handed out two assists in the 3-2 overtime win at La Salle who currently ranks No. 22 in the RPI.
With her first assist at La Salle Wacker became the new FGCU all-time points leader and was the first player in program history to reach the 70-point plateau. The senior has contributed 26 goals and 22 assists in her career. Her 26 goals rank second all-time behind Tindell and her 22 helpers are tied for second in the program record book behind Ashley Ciesielczyk with 28. Her 10 assists this season are approaching the single-season record of 12 set by Ciesielczyk in 2011.
