FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University women's soccer team tallied 27 shots en route to a 2-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic on Friday night at the FGCU Soccer Complex. With the win, the Eagles improve their record to 3-2-1 while Palm Beach Atlantic falls to 2-1-0.

FGCU controlled the ball and tempo throughout, as the Sailfish could muster only two second half shots. Junior Kirsi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) earned the win and the shutout in goal for the Eagles, having to make only one save.

Sophomore Oliva Elias (Coral Springs, Fla.) led the way offensively for the Eagles as she recorded an impressive eight shots, three of which were on goal, and another that gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead 15 minutes into the first half. Elias got an open look as she received a pass from Kelli Haemmelmann (St. Petersburg, Fla.) at the top right corner of the box. Elias took advantage and buried her shot past Sailfish keeper Kayla Webb.

Stacey Payne (Coral Springs, Fla.) gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead as Danielle Faller (Elizabethtown, Penn.) gave her an open look 15 yards out, and Payne beat Webb for the goal in the 36th minute of the first half.

“I'm pleased with the way we played, generating a lot of chances throughout the night. Overall I'm very happy with the result tonight,” head coach Jim Blankenship said.

FGCU had numerous other chances to score throughout the game as they recorded 16 shots in the first half and 11 more in the second.

The Eagles will be back in action this Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. matchup with Austin Peay at the FGCU Soccer Complex.
