Wingate, N.C. – The Florida Gulf Coast University Women's Soccer team shutout Wingate in a 2-0 win Thursday afternoon at Irwin Belk Stadium and John R. Martin Field on the Wingate campus. With the win, the Eagles improve to 3-1, and the Bulldogs fall to 2-1 on the year.

"We moved the ball well and had some good looks especially in the second half,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “Overall I was very impressed with our defense; we held them to just three shots all game. We made some adjustments in the second half and it really paid off.”

2007 Freshman of the Year, Lindsay Haw (Palm City, Fla.) scored both goals for the Eagles. In the 16th minute, Haw took a lead pass from freshman midfielder Olivia Elias (Coral Springs, Fla.) and beat the Bulldog defenders; Haw was one-on-one with Wingate goalkeeper Kathryn Smith (Indian Trail, N.C.) and snuck a shot into the left side of the goal.

After intermission, the Eagles increased its offensive intensity. The Eagles outshot the Bulldogs 7-2 after the break.

In the 56th minute, Haw once again slipped behind the Wingate defense and headed a cross from sophomore midfielder Kayley McMillan (Calgary, Alberta) into the back of the net.

Sophomore Kirsi Keenan (Boca Raton, Fla.) received her first start of the season, playing in 45 minutes and recorded one save. Freshman Stephanie Powers (Seffner, Fla.) finished the second 45 minutes, recording two saves in the Eagles win.

On the afternoon, the Eagles posted 10 shots to three shots for the home-standing Bulldogs. Six of the Eagles' 10 attempts were on-goal, while Wingate had three shots-on-goal.

The Eagles look to stay perfect on the road as they stay in North Carolina to face Gardner-Webb on Saturday, September 6^th at 1:00 pm.
