MIAMI SHORES, Fla. '" The No. 9 FGCU men'™s tennis team lost a tough battle to No. 6 Barry University at the Buccaneer Tennis Center in Miami Shores Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore
Gavin Manders (Warwick, Bermuda) was the only Eagles player to pick up a singles win. Manders defeated Barry'™s Victor Rodriguez by a score of 6-3, 7-6, 10-6 in the No. 3 match. Freshmen
Danny Lee (Naples, FL) and
Edson Lima (Brasilia, Brazil) were both unable to finish their singles matches due to weather conditions.
The No. 2 ranked senior
Juan Carlos Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) retired his match in the third set to the No. 34 ranked Patrick Rittenauer. However, Osorio bounced right back by teaming up with junior
Alberto Gutierrez (Bogota, Columbia) to win the only doubles match for the Eagles. They overpowered Patrick Rittenauer and Martin Jensen with a score of 8-3.
FGCU record falls to 15-4. This Saturday they will host the No. 13 ranked Florida Southern Moccasins at the FGCU Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
