FORT MYERS, Fla.- Despite dominating the possession and outshooting the visiting West Florida Argonauts 17-7 on the afternoon, the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles were forced to settle for a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Pickering Field in Fort Myers. It was the third straight clean sheet for the FGCU defense which ends their season long five-game homestand unbeaten at 2-0-3.
 
"I thought our defense was phenomenal" FGCU head coach Jim Blankenship said. "Not the result we were looking for, but when you don't allow a goal you are pretty tough to beat. I just forgot to tell our guys we needed to score one" he joked.
 
The Eagles were the aggressors from the onset, as Keira Morgan got a pair of shots on goal in the first 10 minutes and Kate Friday followed suit on a free kick in the 16^th minute. A long throw in from Sarah Greiner in the 19^th minute snuck through some bodies and found the head of Lexie Bennett for a chance inside the box, but it was just off target as the game remained scoreless 20 minutes in.
 
West Florida had their only real scoring chance in the first half in the 33^rd minute when an FGCU foul just outside the box gave them a head on look from 30 yards out, but the Eagles defensive wall came up with a block and kept the game level into the half.
 
FGCU held an 8-4 shot advantage at the break including six shots on target, but couldn't crack the Argo back line and was forced to settle for a 0-0 game as the teams headed to the locker rooms.
 
West Florida got their first shot on goal in the 56^th minute, but Madara Bome was up to the task, making the save for the Eagles to keep the Argos off the board.
 
The Eagles had arguably their best chance of the afternoon in the 70^th minute as Avery White got a shot off that was blocked, but picked up the rebound and put a quality shot on net, however once again the Argo keeper made the save and kept the game scoreless.
 
The Eagles last real chance came in the 85^th minute as Lexie Bennett drew a foul on the end line just outside the West Florida box, but FGCU couldn't capitalize on the opportunity and five minutes later the final horn sounded with the Eagles and Argos settling for a scoreless draw.
 
FGCU finished with a 17-7 advantage in shots in the tie including a 7-3 edge in shots on goal. The Eagles drew eight corners to just one for West Florida and had a 61-39% advantage in possession on the afternoon.
 
Keira Morgan led the Eagles with four shots including two on goal in 49 minutes of action while Madara Bome stopped all three shots she saw on goal for her seventh career solo clean sheet.
 
FGCU extends their unbeaten streak to seven as they move to 4-1-4 overall and 1-0-1 in conference action on the year while West Florida draws their first ASUN result in program history as they move to 4-1-2 overall and 0-1-1 in league play.
 
The Eagles are back in action next week in a revenge tour of sorts as they square off with defending ASUN Champions Lipscomb Thursday at 7 p.m. (ET) in Nashville, Tenn. Before taking on the squad that ended their 2025 season in Bellarmine on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. (ET) in Louisville, Ky.
