NASHVILLE, Tenn.- The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles jumped out to a 2-1 halftime lead, but couldn't hold it Thursday night on the road at Lipscomb, settling for a 2-2 draw, their 10
th result in their past 11 trips to the Music City.
Â
Lipscomb got on the board first in the 12
th minute, driving up the right wing before getting a cross that found a Bison head for a goal to put the Eagles in an early 1-0 hole.
Â
The Bisons threatened again just two minutes later, earning a corner and getting another shot towards goal before
Megan Morgan headed it away from the back post to keep it a 1-0 contest.
Â
FGCU got the ball to the other end in the 18
th minute with Morgan making a run into the box before a Lipscomb hand ball inside the 18' gave the Eagles their ASUN leading fifth penalty kick try of the year and Morgan buried it with her left foot to tie the score at 1.
Â
The ball remained in the middle third of the field for most of the next 15 minutes until
Ryleigh Acosta came in off the FGCU bench and put a run together and found
Tessa Brooks in the box for a shot that the Lipscomb keeper made a big save on to keep it a 1-1 game.
Â
With less than a minute remaining in the first half
Ava Russell drilled a shot towards goal that deflected off the Lipscomb keeper right to
Avery White in the mouth of the goal to tapped it in to put FGCU in front 2-1 into the half.
Â
FGCU had two good chances early in the second half as
Lexie Bennett made a drive down the pitch and into the box for a shot on net that was saved before
Keira Morgan hammered a left footed strike that rung off the crossbar to keep it a 2-1 game.
Â
Lipscomb had a chance to tie it in the 54
th minute with a shot from inside the box, but
Lily Borders came up with a big block to keep the chance away from net and keep the Eagles up 2-1.
Â
The Eagles looked like they were in control as the clock ticked under 15 minutes to go, but a long ball ahead for the Bisons led to a chip over the FGCU keeper and into the back of the net for the equalizer in the 76
th minute.
Â
FGCU had one more chance to come away with a win as
Keira Morgan won a one on one battle and crossed a ball to
Kaitlin Gabelman in the box, but the Lipscomb keeper came up with the best of her seven saves on the night to keep the game tied 2-2.
Â
With the clock winding down the Eagles had to hold their breath one last time as the officials went to replay monitor with just three seconds left to see if FGCU was guilty of a hand ball in the box, but the call on the field stood and the Eagles and Bisons settled for the 2-2 tie.
Â
Shots were 16-13 in favor of the Eagles while FGCU held a 9-7 advantage in shots on goal in the draw.
Â
Morgan and White's goals were their first of the year, giving the Eagles 12 different goal scorers this season.
Â
The Eagles extend their unbeaten streak to eight as they move to 4-1-5 overall and 1-0-2 in ASUN action while Lipscomb also picks up their fifth tie, going to 3-2-5 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play.
Â
It is the third consecutive draw between the Eagles and Bisons.
Â
