GREENVILLE, S.C. - Florida Gulf Coast's women's golf team sits sixth through the opening round of the Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman University Golf Course. The Eagles posted a 2-over 290 as a team.
 
FGCU trails leader Alabama by nine shots and sits one back of fifth-place Augusta at the par-72, 6,439-yard layout. Round two continues Saturday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m.
 
Sarah Hyten is tied for sixth individually after carding a 2-under 70, headlined by a hole-in-one on the par-3 14th, a 190-yard hole. The freshman opened with a 1-over 36 on the front nine before catching fire on the back, closing with a 3-under 34 that included the ace.
 
Charlene Lamb also sits tied for sixth after matching Hyten's 2-under 70. She turned in a 1-under 34 on the front nine, then birdied three of her final nine holes to close with a 1-under 36 on the back.
 
Annie Yost is tied for 27th after an opening 74 (+2), playing the front nine in 2-over 37 before evening things out with an even-par 37 on the back. Gia Culler-Guerra sits tied for 40th following a 76 (+4), turning in a 3-over 38 on the front and a 1-over 38 on the back. Sydney Deal is tied for 49th after a 77 (+5), carding a 2-over 37 on the front nine before a 3-over 40 coming home. Competing as an individual, junior Ann Burel is tied for 59th after carding an 80 (+8) in her debut with the Eagles.
 
As a team, FGCU led the field with the most pars in the opening round (64) and posted the fewest bogeys of any team in the field. Lamb tied for 12th most birdies in the field with four, while Hyten tied for 21st with three, in addition to her ace. Yost and Deal tied for second most pars in the field with 14 apiece, Lamb tied for sixth most with 13, and Hyten tied for 14th most with 12.
 
"Sarah's hole-in-one was a great moment for her, and to see her and Charlene both get us off to a solid start with those 70s was exactly what we were looking for heading into the rest of the weekend," head coach Shannon Sykora said.
