FORT MYERS, Fla. –  Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer reeled off three unanswered goals to emerge victorious, 3-1, against Houston Christian on Wednesday night.

"I'm proud of our team first approach tonight," head coach Oliver Twelvetrees said. "Everyone played their role and we played some great football, as well as showing the heart of a champion in the last 30 minutes to preserve the victory."

All five of the Eagles' shots in the game were on target, marking the first time in program history that every shot taken was on target. 

Brooks Beeman struck first for FGCU in the 15th minute to level the match at 1-1. Beeman neatly tapped in an excellent cross from Rico Felix past the Huskies' goalkeeper for his third goal of the season. 13 minutes later, Flavio D'Angelo controlled a rebound out from the box off an Eagles' set piece and launched a rocket that found the back of the net that put FGCU in front in the 28th minute.

Felix had another fantastic play in the 58th minute, when he intercepted an errant Houston Christian pass in the Eagles' attacking territory. He then set up Emerson LaOrden in the box, who tapped it past the goalkeeper to give FGCU a 3-1 lead in the 58th minute.

In the 61st minute, FGCU was assessed a red card for contact made with the Huskies' goalkeeper. The Eagles clamped down defensively, led by Eduard Garcia in the net, and did not concede a goal in the final 30 minutes for the 3-1 win. Garcia's eight saves are tied for the ninth most in a game in program history. 

Houston Christian took 15 shots to FGCU's five in Wednesday's contest. It's the first time since Sept. 8, 2018, when the Eagles defeated Georgia Southern 2-0, that FGCU has won a game with a -10 or greater shot differential. 

Next, FGCU will face Incarnate Word for the first time at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Sept. 18.
