Eagles return to action at Liberty

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast men's soccer continues its season-opening road trip at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28 at Liberty.

The last time out, a late Charleston goal was the difference, as the Cougars scored in the 86th minute to prevail 3-2 over FGCU. The Eagles were assessed a red card with the game tied 2-2 in the 73rd minute, and had to play the final 17 minutes a man down. FGCU withstood three shot attempts from Charleston before allowing the game-winning goal.

Brooks Beeman and Emerson LaOrden each scored their first goals of the season in a four minute span in the first half. LaOrden's goal was the first career score for the Naples native. After attempting three shots and scoring on Sunday, Beeman leads the ASUN in shot attempts with seven.

The Flames enter at 1-1-0 after splitting a pair of contests in California to open the season. Liberty knocked off San Diego State 2-1 but fell 3-1 to No. 18 San Diego State. Samson Kpardeh scored twice and Pablo Matavele found the back of the net once during the road trip. Dan Rose recorded all 180 minutes in goal for the Flames, making seven saves.

FGCU leads the all-time series, which will renew for the first time since 2021, 2-1-0. The sides are 1-1-0 when facing the other in Lynchburg, but Liberty took the most recent meeting 2-1 on Sept. 25, 2021.
