JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jon Embury drove in his 60th run of the season but FGCU (34-20, 17-12) fell to Jacksonville (29-24, 16-14) in a tight 2–1 contest on Saturday at John Sessions Stadium.
The Eagles managed just three hits, including Embury's RBI double, while the Dolphins held on for the victory with a walk-off run in the ninth inning.
Wilfred Gonzalez led the Eagles two hits in the game.
Jon Embury reached base in three of his four plate appearances, drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch sandwiched around his RBI double.
Nathan Gagnon scored a run and drew a walk, demonstrating patience at the plate.
Sebastian Lippman (1-2) was charged with the loss after allowing three hits and one earned run in 2/3 innings pitched.
Hunter Possehl started and pitched two innings, conceding two hits, one earned run, and three walks while striking out two.
Mattox Meeks and Hyatt Richardson each pitched two innings, with Meeks striking out two and both allowing two hits. Ryan Rushing contributed with a scoreless inning, recording one strikeout, and
Logan Eisenbarth tossed one inning, issuing one walk.
Derek Bermudez made a significant impact with his bat, hitting a home run and contributing one RBI in the game. Conner Spelman led JU with three hits and also drove in one run, showcasing his effectiveness at the plate. On the mound, Payton Waters delivered a solid performance, pitching two innings without allowing an earned run, striking out three batters, and surrendering just one hit. These standout contributions helped propel the Dolphins' performance in their latest outing.
Derek Bermudez's home run to left center in the bottom of the first inning gave the Dolphins an early 1–0 lead.
In the top of the third,
Nathan Gagnon walked and later scored on
Jon Embury's double down the left field line, tying the game. After three innings, the score was tied at 1–1.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth. Roger Vergara scored the winning run for Jacksonville on Conner Spelman's RBI single to left center.
Florida Gulf Coast now awaits the ASUN Tournament bracket to be released. The Eagles are expected to be the No. 3 seed.
