FGCU concludes regular season with series at Jacksonville

Eagles look to clinch first-round bye in upcoming ASUN Tournament

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast's magic number is one but try telling any of them that. A single win by the Eagles in this weekend's Atlantic Sun Conference series at Jacksonville will secure FGCU a first-round bye in next week's ASUN Tournament, but this team is focusing on continuing the momentum that began building three weeks ago.

That momentum is an eight-game conference winning streak that started with the final two games in Fort Myers against divisional leader North Florida (28-22, 19-8 ASUN), then continued in DeLand with a sweep of Stetson (21-30, 14-13) and was extended last weekend in Fort Myers with a sweep of West Georgia (13-38, 10-17).

Now the Eagles (33-18, 16-10) head into Jacksonville (29-23, 14-13) to face a Dolphins team that achieved a rare feat – winning a series at Swanson Stadium. It is so rare that JU is the only team to have accomplished that feat this season, as FGCU has a 22-8 home record, a mark that leads the conference. Meanwhile, Jacksonville boasts the next best mark at home, having gone 19-9 this season when playing at John Sessions Stadium.

While FGCU is looking to clinch, Jacksonville is hoping not to fall. Should the Dolphins get swept by the Eagles – something that has only happened once before, back in 2008 – they would potentially fall to fourth in the division depending upon other results around the conference.

To avoid that, the Dolphins must face the league's best – literally. FGCU boasts the ASUN's highest batting average and lowest ERA. FGCU pitchers have recorded 103 more strikeouts this season than the next best ASUN team. Among their conference brethren, the Eagles are the only team in the league with three pitchers ranked in the top 10 in ERA, four hitters ranked in the top 10 in batting average and five hitters ranked in the top 10 in hits.

While the Green & Blue lead the overall series over the Dolphins, 42-29, it is JU that has the upper hand when playing at John Sessions Stadium by a 15-12 margin.

Following its series in Jacksonville, FGCU will stay on the road and head directly to DeLand for the 2026 Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament.
