USF Game Notes
Since the series between FGCU and South Florida began in 2008, the Eagles have posted a 13-3 record when playing the Bulls in Tampa, with an 11-3 record at USF Baseball Stadium. Overall, FGCU has a 22-11 mark against the Bulls, but the Eagles are looking to end a three-game skid against USF, the longest in the series' 33-game history.
For the Eagles (20-11), it will be more than about getting on the win side of the column. FGCU looks to avenge a 7-3 loss to South Florida (24-8) from just two weeks prior in Fort Myers.
To do so, Florida Gulf Coast hitters will have to solve an arm they have never faced before. USF is projected to start right-handed pitcher Will Allen, a freshman from Warner Robbins, Georgia, who will be making his third start and sixth appearance of his young collegiate career. So far this season, he has a 3.75 ERA in 12.0 innings pitched, allowing five runs on nine hits while walking five and striking out 10. He has not yet received a decision, and opposing hitters are batting just .209 against him.
Preston Rogers (3-3, 3.54 ERA) is slated to get the call for the Eagles on Tuesday evening. A redshirt sophomore from Plant City, Rogers started for FGCU in the Mar. 24 game against USF, holding the Bulls scoreless over two full innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out one.
