WICHITA, Kan. – FGCU sophomore
Jon Embury was honored this week as he was named to the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List. Midway through the season, the Eagles' catcher is the ASUN leader in home runs, runs and RBIs.
Embury is the only Atlantic Sun Conference player to be named to the Buster Posey Award Midseason Watch List and is one of just four players on Florida teams listed. Formerly known as the Johnny Bench Award, the honor is given to college baseball's top catcher and is administered by the Wichita Sports Commission.
Through 28 games played and entering this weekend's series at West Georgia, Embury is fourth in the nation in hits (48), with teammate
Javier Gorostola's 51 hits being the only mark above Embury among ASUN players. Embury leads the ASUN in several categories, of which he is also ranked nationally in RBIs (12
th), home runs (36
th), runs scored (55
th) and slugging percentage (58
th).
A sophomore winning the Buster Posey Award would be nothing new. In 2022, then sophomore Kevin Parada of Georgia Tech won the award.
Embury and FGCU are back in action this evening at West Georgia with a 6 p.m. ET start in the first of a three-game ASUN series.
