TUCSON, Ariz. – Florida Gulf Coast beach volleyball (15-10) pushed past Colorado Mesa (14-8) 3-2 to split its weekend at the Wildcat Spring Challenge.
Erin Miller and
Nicole De Oliveira sailed to victory on court 1, winning 21-11, 21-18.
Alexis Keeter and
Ava Lilliquist won going away, 21-19, 21-13, on court 2, and
Emma Soncrant and
Vanessa Moriarty battled for a 22-20, 21-17 win to secure the match for the Eagles on court 5.
"Coming into the weekend, we knew we had to play our best if we wanted to compete with the best," head coach Chris Sweat said. "I was disappointed with our lack of physicality against a very physical South Carolina team. We turned some things around against a very scrappy, and well coached Colorado Mesa team, so I was happy to get a solid win there. We're looking forward to a tough week of practice and some conference matches next weekend."
Next, FGCU returns to the Sunshine State for the FAU Capri Classic, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 10 against Jacksonville.
