Eagles set for senior weekend against Queens

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast (16-29, 10-8 ASUN) returns home for its final weekend of softball at the FGCU Softball Complex against Queens (12-29, 4-14), beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 25.

The Eagles will honor their eight seniors – Olivia Black, Emily Chiarella, Grace Taylor, Tiffany Meek, Nikki Gibson, Parris Wiggs, Maddox Thomas and Sietske Drijvers – on senior day at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 26.

The last time out, Sietske Drijvers caught a runner stealing against USF to move to 14 on the season; she's now tied for the second-most runners caught stealing in a single season in FGCU history with Riley Randolph. Drijvers is three away from the single-season program record with six regular season games and the ASUN Tournament remaining, currently held by Lindsay Ijjas, who threw out 16 runners in 2003.

The Eagles have been led by Black, Wiggs and Drijvers at the plate in 2026. The senior trio holds the three highest averages on the team, at .328, .320 and .293, respectively. Black leads FGCU with 44 hits and 14 stolen bases, and is one stolen base away from the FGCU Division I-era career stolen base record. Drijvers has nine doubles and Wiggs is hitting .368 in ASUN action. Grace Taylor has led FGCU in the circle, with a team-high 105.0 innings on the season and a 2.98 ERA in ASUN play.

Meek has posted a career-best .981 fielding percentage and is fielding .990 in ASUN play; she, Wiggs and Black all have two triples in 2026. Gibson has started every game at third base and hit a solo home run against Florida, Chiarella has a pair of steals and Thomas caught a runner stealing.

Queens enters at 12-29 and 4-12 in ASUN play. Since the Eagles swept the Royals in Charlotte on March 14-15 in the first ASUN series of the season, Queens has recorded a pair of wins over West Georgia and North Florida, along with midweek victories over Gardner-Webb and Winthrop.

The Royals are led by Lindsay Henson, who has 15 home runs and is hitting .425 and slugging .890 with 55 RBIs. Olivia Thornton also has 10 long balls, a .731 SLG and 35 RBIs for Queens. Henson's 15 homers and 55 RBIs are third in the ASUN and rank 55th and 31st, respectively, nationally. Queens has a 6.35 ERA as a team; Addison Kluck has 101 strikeouts in 137 innings of work.

The Eagles lead the all-time series with Queens 7-2, and used a high-powered offensive weekend to sweep the Royals earlier in 2026. In that series, FGCU collected 41 hits, the most in a series since at least 2015, and is believed to be one of the best offensive series since the Eagles scored 39 runs (20 and 19) in a doubleheader domination of Jacksonville on March 20, 2009.

The Eagles racked up 18 hits in the 13-7 rout of Queens, tied for the sixth-most in a game in program history and tied for the most in an ASUN game in program history (with one of the aforementioned wins over the Dolphins on March 20, 2009). It's only the third time in the last 15 years that FGCU recorded 18 hits in a game – the other occurrences were in 2020 & 2021, when the Eagles tallied 18 base knocks against Quinnipiac and South Dakota, respectively. FGCU's 39 at-bats in the same game is tied for the ninth-most in program history and is the third most in a conference game. The last time the Eagles had 39+ at-bats prior to the Saturday (March 14) evening win over the Royals was on May 7, 2021, when FGCU had 41 against Stetson in an 11-inning postseason win.

The three-home run game was the most team homers in a game since April 30, 2022, against Jacksonville. The six home runs in back-to-back games is the most in consecutive games since FGCU hit eight (five and three) against Quinnipiac and Holy Cross on March 7, 2020. It's the most home runs in back-to-back ASUN games since at least 2012.

At home, the Eagles are 3-0 against the Royals. This weekend's trip to Fort Myers is Queens' first since 2024 and second all-time.

Fans that attend any games at the FGCU Softball Complex this weekend can receive a variety of prizes as part of the Spring Cleaning weekend.
