FORT MYERS, Fla. – Jacksonville (29-16, 13-5 ASUN) used a pair of timely hits to prevail 3-1 over Florida Gulf Coast (16-28, 10-8) in a Sunday pitcher's duel.
The Dolphins struck quickly in the top half of the first. After a walk, hit by pitch and wild pitch, Sarah Beth Brake lifted a sacrifice fly to center field. One batter later, Lindsay Chadwick doubled down the left field line to score Kate Linkletter and put JU up 2-0.
Jaida Thomas tallied Jacksonville's second hit of the day in the third inning with a leadoff triple and scored on a one-out error, also off the bat of Brake.Â
The Eagles pushed their only run of the day across in the fifth.
Kiki Daniels led off with a double to left center and
Olivia Black singled up the middle to put runners on the corners.
Sietske Drijvers hit a ground ball to third base, but Black beat out the throw to second, and Daniels scored easily.
Â
FGCU was unable to capitalize to bring in Black and Drijvers, and stranded both in scoring position. The Eagles left six runners on base on the day.
Grace Taylor entered and dealt three hitless innings, but Jacksonville held on to take the series.
Tiffany Meek made her 200th career start for the Eagles on Sunday. Meek became the first player to make 200 career starts in the Green & Blue since 2019.Â
Next, FGCU will travel to USF for its nonconference finale at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22.
