FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (6-16) snapped its losing skid with a 3-2 win over Troy (14-7) in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader.
The Eagles posted a three-run fourth inning to secure the win. With FGCU trailing 2-0,
Tiffany Meek led off the inning with a triple to right center.
Olivia Black then drove her in for FGCU's first run of the game on a single back up the middle on the first pitch she saw.
Parris Wiggs reached on an infield single to shortstop before
Nikki Gibson moved both Black and Wiggs into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.
Presley Smith leveled the game at 2-2 with an infield single that scored Black, and
Ally Thompson gave the Eagles the lead with an RBI groundout to score Wiggs.
Grace Taylor (3-5) earned the win in the circle after throwing a complete game with three strikeouts and six hits allowed. Troy scored its only runs in the top of the third on a walk, triple and sacrifice fly.
The Trojans got runners on the corners in the top of the seventh, but Taylor induced a groundout to deliver the 3-2 victory.
Next, FGCU and Troy will play the series rubber match at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.
