FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (6-17) led early, but Troy (15-7) came back late to win 5-4 and take the series on Sunday.
The Trojans scored all five of their runs in the sixth and seventh. Lydia Kirby drew a leadoff walk before Troy garnered five consecutive singles to post a three-run frame in the sixth. Makaley Boswell then hit a one out, two run home run in the top of the seventh to put Troy up 5-4. The Eagles went down in order in the bottom half of the seventh to give the Trojans the series.
FGCU struck first in the first inning.
Sietske Drijvers singled and
Mackenzie Leiti doubled to put two runners in scoring position.
Tiffany Meek drove in Drijvers with a sacrifice fly to put the Eagles on top 1-0. FGCU added another run in the second on a pair of walks, sacrifice bunt and an RBI groundout from
Ally Thompson before pushing two runs across in the third inning on a Troy fielding error.
Olivia Black went 2-for-3 for the Eagles and scored a run.
Parris Wiggs drew two walks and singled in her lone at-bat.
Julia Bacoulis (2-8) only gave up two runs despite recording every out for FGCU and struck out four batters in her fifth start of the season
Next, FGCU begins ASUN play with a series at Queens from March 14-15.
