FGCU to host Troy for first series of season

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast softball (5-15) returns home after a six-game road trip for its first series of the season against Troy (13-6), beginning on Saturday, March 7, at 1 p.m. The Eagles and Trojans will play a doubleheader on Saturday before concluding the series at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 8.

The last time out, FGCU fell to FAU 14-5 in Boca Raton to split the season series with the Owls after winning 3-2 a few weeks earlier in Fort Myers. Olivia Black is hitting .364 with seven stolen bases on the year for the Eagles. Mackenzie Leiti is slugging .638 with three home runs and 12 RBI. In the circle, Victoria Ash has a 3.97 ERA through 30.0 innings pitched.

Troy enters at 13-6 on the season. The Trojans, who are also gearing up for their first series of 2026, defeated Georgia Tech 6-2 on Tuesday and also have wins over North Alabama and Central Arkansas. Its losses have come against Auburn, No. 11 Virginia Tech and USC Upstate, among others.

The Trojans are led by Makaley Boswell, who is hitting .483 with 11 doubles, 19 RBI and 11 stolen bases. McKinnon Howard is a perfect 10-for-10 stealing bases, and Kalee Rochinski has three homers and a .579 OBP. As a team, Troy ranks fourth nationally in stolen bases per game at 2.79 and in doubles per game at 2.42. The Trojans are also 10th nationally in OBP at .468.

Troy has six pitchers that have recorded a win, made five or more appearances and thrown at least ten innings. Abby Lovell is 3-1 with a 2.55 ERA and 36 strikeouts across 33.0 innings pitched for the Trojans.
